Yes racing horse is dangerous!
Personally I have always felt safer on the race track then on the highways getting to and from the track with the drunks. druggies, and speeders.
Think of PETTER HAUGHTON, GLEN GARNSEY, TERRY TOWNE, ETC.
I am just an old horse trainer still going around in circles. Sometimes Fast. Sometimes Half-Fast.

At the end of his career, they used to lift Chet Dewbre onto the bike at Scioto in the 1970's

In regards to Kauffman's and Miller's heel and ankle injuries.
Just a few years ago an old horse driver/trainer limped up to his trotter, set his crutches aside, jumped on his race bike, put his cast incased foot in the stirrup, and went out and won the Hambo.
Any of you there that day?

And I bet some of you thought I was just making that story up.

Wrenn picked up a drive in just about every race tonight at Northfield, so he clearly will be No. 2 there now.

Question: When Aaron Merriman suffered 5 broken ribs in the spill at Scioto the other night. Does he have insurance knowing he is going to be out of the bike for several months? And what does it pay? Kind of like when you get injured on the job. Does disability kick in for harness drivers?

Good question. Im not sure how that works. We know Aaron makes alot of money but im sure he is not saving it. We know he gambles, dont think he is married. If he on child support he is screwed. He has alot of downtime he likes to drink and drive. Gofundme here we come  ;D

AFLAC?

Will it be tougher to cure the 'demons' he has without work?

How much does he weigh now?

He will more than likely gain weight during his recovery.

They say that weight makes a difference in driving today.

I was told from a respectable horseman that Brett Beckwith will lose a few races because of the weight he is.

Brett Beckwith is not fat. He is solid muscle and usually works out whenever possible. His weight will never cost him a race.

Body fat and muscle helps out a bit. The weight makes the difference. This is what the well respected horsemen told me.
He’s been more right than wrong on his observations with me.
All I can tell you.
I am still a skeptic as far as the weight of the driver, but we all see things differently on this subject.

Billy, Hal, Shelly, Wayne Smullen, Dave Dunklin and Hunter Myers those just the deaths. How many drivers and trainers you know, that are limping around from racing related incidents. How many concussions? Look at football helmets they've improved, when was the last improvement in our helmets.Do they still mandate vests at all tracks? I started in the 60's, not many updates. I've had my share of wrecks, broken equipment etc. I wake up every day sore and do limp, but I thank god that I made it through. It' s a dangerous business, don't forget it.

Unfortunately in these types of situations, a big gambler will step up with funding for "future considerations ".💯
