« on: February 13, 2021, 11:20:32 AM »
There will be a lot of paper going thru the claim box this weekend.

Come and get em!

How many claims just tonight? 20? 30? More?

Lets go racing boys!

In the 4th race alone, the first seven finishers in the 8-horse field were claimed. Gotta be a record, and I wonder how many total claims were entered in that race.

Curious if sales tax is collected on claims? if so it would have been a good day for taxing authorities for sure.

My era of the business is long gone.. We had claimers that raced year after year..They were well taken care of and rested after the end of the meet...The purses sucked so there was no big claiming game like there is today and usually guys didn’t claim off the regulars at Monticello.. That being said what shortens their careers are the chemists and their drugs theses poor animals have injected into their system..

Ive never understood why draws in harness racing are generally cloak and dagger stuff.
Yesterday at Pocono-there were SCORES of people making claims. lines were out the door.
Yet-an opportunity to have the draw done for the claims in public/or on camera drawn by a celebrity or leading driver-- to create some excitement--no. Just an announcement and loud grumblings from horsemen about "fixed" draws etc etc.
Pocono management  were great free pizza, cookies, water.
Track for all the bad weather they had=was amazing.
Officials could do better IMHO.
