BREAKING: Rock legend Neil Young hits Trump with MASSIVE $10 MILLION LAWSUIT after his campaign uses “Rockin’ in the Free World” AGAIN – despite promising to stop after Young sued him the first time!
The 80-year-old rock icon has had ENOUGH of Donald Trump hijacking his music, and now he's demanding $10 million in damages for using his classic protest anthem at Republican campaign rallies ahead of the midterms.
Young's lawyers had a few choice words for Trump about what the song actually means.
A blistering lawsuit filed Monday in federal court in Virginia describes the 1989 hit as an anthem exposing the suffering of poor, homeless, and forgotten Americans beneath the empty promises of politicians.
“In short, the song is the opposite of everything that Donald J. Trump stands for,” the lawsuit declares.
Any fan of Young or the song knows this is 100% correct …
The lawsuit actually targets Trump 47 Committee Inc., which allegedly played the song at Trump's October 12 rally in Youngstown, Ohio, and at numerous other campaign events.
But here's where things get particularly embarrassing for Trump's gang that couldn’t shoot straight: Young already sued his 2020 campaign for using the SAME SONG without permission.
The new complaint points out that Trump's previous campaign quickly settled that lawsuit and promised never to use “Rockin' in the Free World” again without obtaining Young's approbation, which will never happen.
Now Young is asking a federal judge to order Trump's political committee to stop using his music and pay $10 million for the alleged infringement.
Young has been an outspoken Trump critic for years. In January, he accused the president of “destroying America bit by bit,” and later offered his music free to the people of Greenland amid Trump's threats against the territory.
Perhaps most important to Young, who was born in Canada but became a U.S. citizen in 2020, is the lawsuit’s argument that Trump's use of the song damages Young's reputation by creating the false impression that the musician supports him.
The irony of it all is that Trump’s minions can’t get past a song whose title sounds like a patriotic celebration, while overlooking the fact that its lyrics are a furious indictment of a late 80’s America that abandons its most vulnerable citizens.
Young has spent four decades singing “Rockin' in the Free World,” and Trump’s goons haven’t even bothered to listen to the words. They have 10 million reasons to now.
