Title: AND NOW FOR SOMTHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT....
Post by: toothman on September 20, 2026, 12:36:43 AM
The thorobred tripe crown has me confused and upset

Kentucky Derby May 1
        22 Days
Preakness Sunday May 23 back to Pimlico still under construction
         13 Days
Belmont   Sat June 5
Can a horse race back after 13 days?

i get trying to make it easier for the derby winner to race back in the Preakness---but then what?

While not ideal it is certainly possible. Conquistador Cielo won the Met Mile in 1:33 on Monday and came back 5 days later and won the Belmont.
NYRA is discussing shortening the Belmont to a mile and a quarter which might make it more likely for a horse to try it that it would be at a mile and a half. Still highly unlikely that a trainer would want to try to win all 3 legs with so much money and prestige at stake in other races besides the triple crown.
