The Meadowlands today reminds me of Roosevelt at the END. It has fallen that much. Never will it return to the glory days. The racing was exciting and those days are long gone. A casino might revive the purses...but I don't see the racing getting better.

I think the passage of time and nostalgia has a way of glorifying reality a bit. Courtney Foos, Ken Iulo, etc. etc. were all sprinkled in frequently then too. Some weekday cards had the distinct look of Freehold on steroids.
Was it better then? Yes - I think it was. At least to my mind. But let's not make it out to be Broadway...
It was just a higher quality mixed bag.

every year people find some reason to take shots at the Mecca. Plain and simple it is. No track puts on a production for the big events like them. The problem is they race only 2 nights a week and once they went from 4-5 nights a week to just 2, it became an afterthought along with the increase of online betting. No one is saying oooh i want to go to Scioto Downs and be in the winners circle,.
