Meadowlands has cancelled live racing for Saturday due to strong winds & historic low temperatures.
-
Why not race in the afternoon? No competition.
-
Four consecutive weeks of cancelled races, most involving the same horses, who will now have not raced for a minimum of 38 days. Zero mention of makeup cards. Zero imagination or effort applied in regard to moving up post times into the afternoon due to weather or mixing up the condition sheet to accommodate the affected horses. For example, of the four cancelled weeks, only one was a Friday. Yet with this forecast for Saturday being a red flag more than a week away, god forbid they move some conditions from all of the previous cancelled cards to Friday for one week to throw those people a bone. No outside the box thinking.
It all gives the appearance of just going through the motions. Bare minimum.

In this case it's going to be just as cold and windy in the afternoon as at night with high temps only in the teens with 30 to 40 mph winds
I.

Now see some of these horses scheduled to race in the qualifying races, for they have missed so much time. More expenses for the owners with no purse money coming in. Quite a mess there.

A lot of times the track pays a small amount of money to cover transportation, vet prerace and bills , grooms, etc. It helps a little.
