i used to go to the races nightly in chicago when the sport was still relevant in this city....
regarding Tony's driving - his skills were the best i've ever seen from anyone that drove regularly on our circuit - and we've had some great drivers here in chicago.....he was more impressive than paisley, dave magee, tim tetrick, ron marsh, andy miller just to name a few...his race strategy was second to no one...watching him rate a horse first over was an absolute thing of beauty...it was awesome to watch this guy display his craft on a nightly basis...just a phenomenal talent he had as a driver...
regarding his training and horsemanship - first. if he catch drove your horse. he would always come back to the connections and suggest changes to make to help your horse...i can't tell you how many trainers had compliments for Morgan for being able to help in this way...countless times i've heard trainers say what an amazing horsemen he was...regarding his own stable? it always seemed he had someone else down for the horses he trained on his own...i know everyone's gonna say he did that so he could cheat...i'm not gonna accuse him of that because i don't know for sure...what i do know is Morgan made a lot of guys the number one trainer during chicago race meets...i.e. bret schulz...and another one i distinctly remember...dennis henert....when denny henert was on his own he was about a 2 or 3 percent winner...with Morgan he won a hawthorne trainer title...
congrats on 18 thousand tony,,,through it all one thing is for sure...he's one of the best horsemen ever in the sport of harness racing...

I find it hard to believe, a driver, can turn a 2%-3% winning trainer into the leading trainer at the meet..with his driving skills, his bag of tricks was surely involved...that being said, it is one hell of an accomplishment tmbz1

In Morgan's early days at Quad City Downs, East Moline Downs, Canterbury Downs and Chicago he was on a race bike or jog cart training all morning every morning. Thousands and thousands of miles.
The USTA lists him with 102,468 race miles. At maybe 3 miles in the sulky for ever race. That is 300,000 or so miles.
Add on maybe 2,000 qua races. Thats another 6,000 or so miles.
I am guessing that Tony has gone more miles behind a horse then any man since the start of mankind.
I wonder how many days, weeks, months, years behind a horse that totals?
That is a lot of farts to smell.

Hey GOOF - You ever hear of Bret Shultz? won a maywood trainer title with Morgan's help somewhere around the year 2000.
if you or GOAT never heard of him, check out his facebook page...he posted about Morgan winning 18000 drives...
both you learn your facts...then post

Yes Bret became a top trainer with Tony’s help then was asked to leave Illinois or face a long suspension for his 7 positive test. You also had Gerald Hanson was barred from track restaurant for not paying his tab. All the sudden he is the claiming horse king of Chicago, every time Tony tells a trainer they need to put it in a claimer Hanson claims and runs it up to the open.
