Title: Another old horse on ongait instead of being retired
Post by: Dingus on October 02, 2025, 10:32:30 PM
This time it’s Pat Melloy listing 13 year old Trashytonguetalke r for $1000 starting bid.
Horse was laid off over 1 year and has finished 9th all 5 starts this year.
Someone needs to tell Pat his reputation will go to shit if he doesn’t do the right thing and call 1 of the horse adoption agencies in Ohio.  Shameful.

Why? It’s supposed a healthy 13 year old horse why should he give it away? That’s young for a riding horse

Some owners / trainers just don’t care, have no heart . This poor horse raced his ass off for all those years, probably has some physical issues, not competitive anymore so yeah just sell him , let someone else  deal with him for the next year . God forbid you give him the retirement he deserves. Nope , maybe we can get $1500 for him. Ridiculous! Pat melloy / owner must be really hard up for the $1000 - $1500.

If we knew he would be retired and turned into a riding horse, then I agree.

Dingus is a fitting name for you if you are such a vigilante why don’t you you buy him? And rangers sure shot? What did he bring? You couldn’t bail him out? There are a lot of young owners/trainers looking to get their foot in the door at “B” tracks and sometimes horses like these are a great opportunity (no training down, tried and true, ready to drop in the box) for someone just starting out to get some utility out of. I will also mention ongait buyers do not consist solely in of race horse owners. I have a young woman that works for me that habitually searches the on gait listings for potential riding horse candidates that she can re purpose. If you are so concerned with these animals being rehomed to be used for their sole purpose then why don’t you pony up and help them out? And let’s face it, some of these buyers may potentially save these horses from a far worse outcome, if they can get some utility out of them by racing them for the remainder of their eligibility.
