Maybe the most boring Jug EVER!!!!!
-
Definitely not the crowds of the good old days
-
Embarrassing. Only 2.6 million handle. Idiotic scheduling. To have one of you premier events on a fucking Thursday afternoon is moronic.
-
Handle not there but they still drew a good enough crowd in this hick-hillbilly-rural area, to be able to boast having THE most
attended race in North America. Their top competition{M1], right in the middle of an enormous city. They squashes the cries for a day change. Thursdays and the two heats sets it apart. I seriously doubt the handle would increase significantly moving it to any other day. I hate the saying: " It is what it is."But it certainly fits here. Good as it's gonna get.Not like the attendance and popularity has any hope of increasing in the future.

It was jam packed!!

If you knew the game, you would realize how dumb your comment is. We witnessed a driving masterpiece from Ronnie Wrenn. He kept the best driver in North America bottled up then unleashed a final quarter Dunn could do nothing about.

You must be to much of a cretin to understand tradition.

Dunn conceded the win when they drew post 2. Took the 125k and moved on to the next one

I don't have the answer
I don't think a passing lane would help
The racing is a terrible product
Indian file and impossible to close from further back than 2nd? 3rd? at best
unsustainable

Short Bus Kenny

Kenny: My hick comment was meant for the ones that portray it as such. They can't build roads
fast enough. Giant Intel plant 30 miles away being built. Pinching in on the farmers.

It was a joke

It was a joke
They tell you on the broadcast that Burke and all his drivers huddle before the race to game plan
Gingras secures the lead in the elimination and the race is then completely over as he slams on the breaks to make sure stablemate wrenn can easily cross over and clear.
In the final. The only horse with a chance decides not to race. Trainer of that horse happens to be wrenns uncle and is on the track jumping up and down high fiving and hugging wrenn seconds after the race is over.
Joke is correct. Worst gambling product you can find
-
Most of the 20 races were awful. How many $3.00 win prices can someone take? And 20 races on a Thursday afternoon? Awful product.
-
they weren’t beating that horse today no matter what so I’m not sure what you’re all on about
these horses race against each other the rest of the year on bigger tracks with passing lanes. that’s what makes the Jug the Jug.
last year a horse popped the pocket and won
2 years ago a horse got parked to a 25.4 quarter which set up for a great finish
they can’t be blockbusters every year

These drivers are too friendly with each other. You can't let any top horse walk to the half in 56.3

For those of us who remember Ron Wrenn passing out syringes at nfld to the trainers he was driving for dont really consider him very talented.

I didn’t know Virgil Morgan was Wrenns uncle

Virgil Morgan doesn't have anything to do with my comments

Final was over when they drew. I went on about my day after that.
Final was over after the elims
the elim winners get post #1 and #2-and that chalks out The Final
to make The Final more interesting-they could have a completely open draw-with all horses getting a shot at posts #1-8
but I am sure the owners wouldn't like that-no rewards for winning your elim
the elims would be more interesting also since there would be no real reason to win

One reply for all the comments, being trackside, decent crowd, but nothing like the glory days. I never recall the attendance being announced. Melanie Wrenn trains Odds on Outlier..Peter is her husband, Ronnie Wrenn Jr, his nephew. On jug day most favorites do win so payouts are low. Louprint is by far the best 3 year old in the country, 9 out of 9 for the year. The two horses that could have given him a battle raced against each other in race 4 in the OBC Swingtown and Rick Wink.. The final was not an exciting race. Once Louprint walked to a 56 and change half, the race was over. He won both his races for fun and easily could have gone a second faster if necessary. They will never put a passing lane in, nor should they. The original poster, Mike had said earlier this year how stacked the 3 year old crop is this year. There are certainly some nice horses, but none are on Louprint's level.

I agree drivers are much to friendly these days, but going for half a million dollars changes that. Nobody wanted to be the sacrificial lamb and go first up against by far the best horse. In my opinion almost the entire field was lackluster. Price Hal Hanover didn't impress me at all. On paper he was Louprint's only competition and he couldn't even get out of his division.

Celebrating your nephew is fine. But maybe in private?
Running onto the track after no-trying to win and celebrating the winning driver like you just won the AL central? It goes far far overlooked and even dismissed but there is gambling taking place. Just an observation from afar....

Agreed, but not sure about a no try. what more could that horse of done. He was locked in the pocket the whole race..pun intended because of your username ;D

I would not say he was locked in the whole race.
To answer your question, exactly what Burke did in the the jugette from the pocket. No matter what, pull when you have to and give a legitimate effort to win the race. I wouldn't say conceding like he did was necessarily bad. It was the antics on the track after using that strategy that looks ridiculous

Agree about the antics.. definitely a bad look. Pulling the pocket would have had to happen at the half like the Jugette, like you mentioned. Usually not a winning strategy, especially with a back half of 53.4
-
it is very difficult to stare at fractions and judge/make assessments in a 2nd heat
of course the fractions will be slower-how much slower is speculation/matter of opinion
so to say Louprint had a soft half in The Final is a grey area for the rare folks like me who don't stare at the clock and obsess over it

I don't know but I am sure you are old enough to remember the driving style of guys like Dancer, O'brien and Haughton. They never gave holes and parked each other out regardless of purse. I would love to see some billionaire racehorse lover build a 1 mile straight away track where post position and courtesy tucks didn't come in to play. I bet it would be an amazing product and then all that friendly shit we see would be put to rest.

A few years back I read that New Zealand or Aus. was going to do just that. One side of the track for Tbreds the other side for Sbreds. Small grandstand and rely mostly on internet.

That would be a game changer. Have cameras following the field from the sides and above. No need for grandstand at all. Make it a TV/internet event.
-
Nice tradition and it is a good time to be there to enjoy small track racing which I liked a lot back in the day at Northville and Jackson and Maywood and some fairs. But,
Post position order all the way to the half?
$1 Ex paid $2?
Garbage race.

the horse had a 0.0% chance of beating Louprint. no sense in cooking him for the rest of the year

they can’t all be classics
it was a great week of racing and the Jug did get the best 3 year old in the sport, which it doesn’t always.
the final was over the moment Prince Hal retreated in the first elim, shit happens.
if they wanted to spice up the final but keep the eliminations competitive they could have the elimination winners draw 1-5 in the final instead of automatically getting 1-2

15 out of 20 favorites won Jug day!

no one needs talent driving fir Burks
