According to this post by co-owner Courant, Dexter Dunn will drive Maryland in the Hambletonian. That means

I'm surprised by that even though he won the Crown last year. With Dexter driving and post 4 he is your winner

Is this a sign of who is the better horse or loyalty to Maryland?  Super Chapter owners have to be nervous as shit with Yannick up instead of Dex going for $1m.  If anyone can overdrive that horse it’s Yannick!   tmbz1

Excellent job reporting this USTA.  Still nothing on their site.  Hambo, Jug and the Crown are the premier events and they don’t even break the news.  What a useless organization!   They would rather report that Crawford Farms bred three Hambo Oaks finalists. 🖕

It was pretty obvious. Dexter was taking Maryland as soon as they announced Yannick as the other driver. Melander doesn’t use Yannick it was a Jeffrey Snyder decision. But saying that you can only hope.

Exactly - they need to close up shop and horse racing needs to get a professional office like every other major sport.  You have 30 women in Columbus that sit around all day and gossip and play fuck fuck games with zero leadership or organization.  They live off the donations of the members because your membership means zeroooooo

Half in 54 and change is in play.  I like SZ and MMS closing off a covered trip

They have more important things to do like put out congratulation articles on a guy who was told he’s not welcome in Kentucky anymore.   ngc3. And yes, I know it was put up by Pocono. But it is still up on their site!

I’m going to predict exactly what I predicted last year even though it didn’t happen. Yannick will totally screw up the race. Not just for him but others as well. He won it last year BUT CAME DAMN CLOSE in putting his wheel into another steed. If they took the hopples off of Highland Kismet Yannick would still be 0 for the Hambo. I am no Yannick fan. I know he fires quite well BUT for some reason I just think he is one dimensional and this time of year he has horrible horrible luck.

I like D. Miller on a trotter & might have gave James a try. Gringras is truly the chosen one.
When does Bartlett get a top trotter?

check out the 11th race at The Red Mile today

Dexter drove the 10 and won the 100K final at Oak Grove last start, 1st up and easy winner in 53.3

today He chooses the 11, who won a PA sire stake in 57 flat last start

that is a competitive field of 2 yo filly trotters

Maryland is awesome, extremely tough races, definitely the definition of the bridesmaid.

This is what I think of Dexter Dunn's Hambo decisions though.... 11.wj

Melander! GOOP! Meshuggah!  ;D

Agree on all counts - I will go to my grave thinking three things about last years Hambo

1) Karl doesn’t win if he doesn’t draw the rail.  Drawing the rail forced Yannick to not leave
2) Karl doesn’t win if it doesn’t rain - that coupled with #1 didn’t let Yannick leave
3) Karl doesn’t win if Bob McClure has half a brain.  If he sits outside of Karl for two beats more the cover catches up, Karl is plastered to the rail and never gets the 2nd over trip

Maryland ready to go 49. last q last week in 26, could have won if pushed, will be lengths better this week and will need to be

I'm going to leave out Super Chapter even though he's great and take Maryland and Maximus Mearas for the exacts

Yannick will put the hammer down on Super Chapter, the faster he goes the faster Marland closes and Maximus Mearas and the crossbred (Nordic Catcher) will benefit

Years ago in the 80s there was a good trainer who said to breed a champion trotter and to a lesser exent a champion pacer you breed a trotting stallion to a good pacing mare and vice versa a pacing stallion to a trotting mare he said, gave the pacer more stamina. He said the pacer with trotting blood on the mama side, they would run all day and forget to stop.

In the 90's and early 2000's some of the top trotters there were atually by pacing sires.

In fact Eric Running in the 70's had a great trotter called Easton Light who won NZ's biggest trotting race 3 years in a row. He was by the same sire as my champ in the 80's and there was a mare named Petite Evander who won like 600 or 700,00 thousand in 4 different countries in USA and Europe as well. Anyway, he had a pacer name Ritch Hill who was a class 7 pacer (CO is maiden and C8, C9 raced with OC (Open) pacers. He couldn't win any more pacing races so he converted him to the trot, qualified him and in a wierd rule back then if you were a C7 pacer, you had to run against open trotters which were CO Maiden to C7 which was OC.  He had him beating his tablemate Easton Light at home and he won the Rowe Cup (2nd biggest in NZ) beating the best trotters off 2 qualifiers.

Quite a feat
