Two nights in a row at Meadowlands and two complete stiff jobs.
-
He has made a very comfortable career of running second and third over the years with an occasional win picture in the mix. Loves to ride the rail and pick up also ran checks.
-
Pat not Mike, big difference.
-
Had this conversation last night. He was 'warned' a couple/three years back about his selective efforts on the track.
Its actually a fun handicapping consideration; is this the night?

Part of handicapping—you gave to take a good guess who is trying and who isn’t based on post position and who is driving!!

its very simple his father is rich Mike La Chance, if you have a horse with him good luck, the bills are alittle high and he really is not a good driver.
-
He doesn't use his horses hard...

Many trainers charge too much from what is said on horseplop. In this case if Pat trains your horse, he drives your horse. Up to an owner if he can live with this arrangement.

Patrick will never be compared favorably to his HOF dad. However he has been a steady horseman for many years now as a trainer. I do not recall him ever have been in trouble for drugs or abusing his horses. I don’t recall him using a whip too often. He seems to have a steady list of French Canadian owners who have been with him for many years. Besides his driving ability I think an owner could do a lot worse than Pat.

Picks his spots. Thursday night an yonkers. $73.00 to win.

Does he carry his ‘winnings’ in a suitcase too?
Asking for a friend!!
-
And this is relevant today because Lachance’s father did it like 50 years ago? Maybe we should accuse Lee Harvey Oswald’s children if they plan an assignation of Joe Biden since their father killed JFK 60 years ago?
-
sure, he's great if you basically just want an overnight horse that nets very little money at the end of the year
but pat keeps himself employed and i'm sure bets a few dollars on those nights he decides its go time

Some drivers do it better than others!!
Good for thought: Herve died a pauper from what people say!
-
He should it,,,, and it’s a shame
-
Well when your good friends or related to Brice Cody nothing will happen at the Meadowlands.
-
Well if no one else likes it. I know one person that likes a good stiffing....Oh Lance....

As a driver, this comes down to one issue and one issue only. Was he going to have a successful career as a catch driver. The answer early on was no. Come on, it was always obvious that Pat was never, ever, going to be a fraction of his dad. Neither was his brother. So, he was brought up and taught -- by his dad -- the old school horsemen, French Canadian way, the trainer/driver way. That's the operation he runs today. You manage, train, and race the horses in your barn the way you need and want to manage them. His dad is still in the barn pretty often (not as much in the winter, LOL). Think about how Ray and Larry Remmen used to operate their stable. Jim Doherty. Sure, unlike Pat Lachance, they had some top racehorses, but the model is very similar. I won't speak to Pat's stiffing horses, sitting on them, and so on.
-
I remember like 10yrs ago or so at Meadowlands he was sitting along the rail like 7th or 8th on a 15-1 and the frontend totally fell apart going up the backstretch he had no choice to pull the right line and the horse exploded off the turn won by over 10 lengths knocked off 2-3 seconds what he was going the last few starts. Needless to say there was no just going around after that the following week bump in class went off 2-1 8-5 made a half brush won easy by 4-5 lengths he picks his spots thats for sure.

Pat might be the guy to let train your horse(s). If you like to bet your horse(s) you could make a few good scores with him if all goes well.
-
Somehow he doesn't do great but always manages to survive
-
Do you remember Worldly Beauty, who do you think broke a trained her, turned the driving over to Luc. Great match race, Beauty and the Bunny, June of 2003, the guy has been doing it for over 20 yrs, he's not his dad not may are.

Eric Abbatiello is the same way as Pat their fathers are very wealthy and neither one of them have to make millions to live comfortably.
-
Eric is a sharp business man in his own right, he was bound to be successful.
-
Carmine was very sharp.
