Died in his Malibu hione peacefully
One of the greatest of all time in the nfl
With a great sense of humor
RIP
-
Also did a mean beer commercial...Him along with Ray Nitske[sp] of GB were the original models for middle linebackers..Sad to hear. Like the Bears needed more bad news..Maybe it will inspire them tonight.

Dick Butkus featured at :02 and with a line at 1:45
AND an outrageously good 6 mins.
Butkus: Monster of the Midway
((destructive tackles inc. twisting a head, rock hard forearm shots, crushing many into the ground....
a very bad man. Ray Nitschke and Jack Lambert and Ray Lewis violent..but Butkus without peer))

r.i.p. and thank you,
to football's most legendary middle linebacker
-
Every kids football idol in my youth. Difft game of football then and he was tops in that era. Glad to see he made it to old age without any lasting damage from tough game. Only 31 when he retired.
-
He was a Legend in Harness Racing. Loved his drive in the Messenger.
-
I saw him play high school football at Soldier Field for Chicago Vocational School. Truly a man among boys. Great career at University of Illinois. Prototypical MLB with the Bears. Rest in peace.

👍 he brought a lot of happiness to bear fans for years. RIP and to the guys who say LT was a better linebacker st least Butkus wasn’t a crackhead
-
Was most impressed with his 7 consecutive driving titles at Maywood Park from 1966 to 1972.

Lawrence Taylor couldn't hold Butkus's jock strap.
-
Played against him when he was at Illinois. As great as he was he could play dirty as most opponents were left with a gash between their nose and forehead. People don't often realize that he was a very good placekicker as well as an outstanding linebacker. My Fraternity little brother was taught to kick by Butkus in a Chicago park. God, it was a long time ago.

I WOULDNT GO THAT FAR BECAUSE LT WAS PROBABLT THE BEST ALL AROUND LINEBACKER WEEK AFTER WEEK AT QB SACKS AND COVERING TIGHT END AND WR ON SHORT PASS PLAYS. WHEN THE GIANTS BLITZ IT MEAN LT WAS GONNA KNOCK THE QB ON HIS ASS. JUST MY OPINION BUT LT WAS THE GREATEST EVER
-
taylor and butkus were different players
taylor had the speed to wreak havoc on qbs
but in the day when the run game dominated butkus was feared by anyone trying to run in his area or catch a short pass for that matter

Perfectly stated.

You can certainly can debate who was the best middle linebacker Butkus or LT but there is no debate who was a better person. RIP Dick Butkus.
