Suffered a brain aneurysm in the winner's circle after winning a DSBF trot with Big Al M at Harrington.  Taken by ambulance to hospital..races held up until ambulance returned.  Said to be doing better and out of the hospital, I think.  I see a GOFUNDME has been set up for him..see USTA website for info.

What happened to Eddie Davis jr

This is from a post made by his wife Janet about 10 days ago and again on June 28

Ed had what we thought was heat exhaustion Monday night, but recurred again last night. Forced him in to an ambulance (typical horseman🤬) a CT scan revealed bleeding on the brain. Craneotomy performed next  am to relieve pressure off the brain . He was  resting as comfortably as possible later in the day.

June 28
He is now at home but my  man has a very long road ahead

$40,000,000.00 in purses the guy won.

Now he's begging for money?

Give him a case of Depends and a drool cup and let him think about things.

40 million over a 40 year career comes out to 50k a year at the standard 5%. Not even close to middle class and a family health plan these days costs 30k plus for high quality. Not a big fan of Go Fund Me, but 90 % of these harness drivers live paycheck to paycheck, just saying. Get well soon.

Well said and 100% accurate..

It is hard to believe he had no horseman association health insurance.

Good guy and hope he gets well!

i think saying a 40 yr career is stretching it if in fact the gentleman is 55 yrs old
maybe 30 year career would be more accurate
i guess horseman are not known for being the most astute when it comes to financial planning
wishing him the best

Really depends on the quality of health insurance he’s has.. He could have very high deductibles, high Co-insurance, co pays and god  forbid his doctors are out of network.. it could still be a small fortune for someone only making $50K per year.. Until I retired I owned a small business for 35 years and the costs were tremendous.. When my wife went back to work as a teacher after the kids were little I can’t tell you how much easier it was having a NYS sponsored health insurance plan.. that alone is worth almost $30K per year in today’s world.. I always tell my kids that whatever career they picked make sure your health insurance is good as unfortunately sooner or later we all need it..

During the years I raced in Delaware,  the horseman's health insurance was pretty good!  Not a big Sal Dimario (horseman's rep) fan!  Eddie Jr had a farm there and competed there for years why no coverage?

No harder worker than Janet. Takes care of their horses and transports them wherever. No barn help, just that of Eddie and Eric.
She does so much for others. Organizes a Christmas campaign for those in need. Collects food, presents whatever for families. Wraps all the gifts and delivers it herself. She's always the first to help anyone.

WHOOP DE FUCKING DO, OR DOES THIS CALL FOR A LA DE FUCKING DA?

Itś not just the medical bills, they need income, a hell of a lot more than theyre making now. Janet works her ass off, give them a break. Think of all the things her mother has done for people for years. Speedy full recovery.

How fucking pathetic guys been driving for a hundred years and the guy's family is begging for money. Just goes to prove my contention that these inbred tarts are no different than the hillbillies that travel from city to city with those  carnivals.

Bad answer.

If her husband is going to have a trifling career playing minor league harness driver, it's her responsibility to get any job with health insurance to protect the family.  You may think that baking cookies for X-Mas is admirable but it's a pathetic situation they alone are responsible for.

Bad answer Calhoun.

She doesnt bake Xmas cookies.

If only you were in their shoes. Only then can you fully understand.
Ok, she wraps presents for those in need.

Admirable.  But not saintly.

I was taught if you can't take care of your own and yourself, you're no damn good to anyone else.

All those years and they didn't bite the expensive health insurance bullet.

That's a choice.

But I bet they have a $50,000 truck.

In a perfect world we would all have short term and long term disability insurance to pay for circumstances like this.... unfortunately it’s cost prohibitive for most self employed ..it was something my wife made me get when I was young and had my own business… To be honest I don’t even know if there are policies for harness drivers due to the dangerous nature of the job.. Luckily, today there are sites like GoFundme for people to help.. Speedy recovery..

The poor guy and his family are trying to survive due to a catastrophic illness , he’s not looking to retire from these donations.. Not everyone is as financially astute or as  well off as you and ur dad.. Consider urself one of the lucky ones!! The $50 I donated won’t effect my life one way or the other but if it helps him and his family out a little bit , then it’s worth it.. I don’t know the guy or his family but being an ex horseman I do know how tough a business it can be to make ends meet..
