If memory serves correctly, Benny was playing poker at the Harrah's Casino Horse Sale in Atlantic City.
After making several nice scores he purchased Flak Bait, who went on to make close to 900k.
Recalling that they paid like 16-17k for the horse.
One more Benny story, purchased a Cadillac which was a total lemon, took it and left it down town at the train station, unlocked motor running in the hopes it would be stolen and he could collect.
Next day the cops called and told him they found his car in front of the train station...outta gas

He won the money at the Baccarat table.

Great guy, would give you the shirt off his back. It was sad all his¨friends¨ wouldn´t piss on him if he was on fire for the last 20 years. Took a plane full of people to Nashville from Lexington to the grand old opera. He picked up the tab. Bernard was top shelf all the way, let´s stop at the Homestead for a drink or two. RIP my friend.

Didn't he kick the crap out of Jim Marohn after he lost a big race with Seahawk Hanover ?

SEATRAIN WAS SUCH A NUT! SO TALENTED BUT WANTED EVERYTHING HIS WAY. HE REMINDED ME OF SEABISCUIT. THERE WAS NOT MUCH TO HIM----GREAT GAITED---SLICK AND A MOTOR THAT HE USED WHENEVER ONLY HE WANTED TO USE IT! THE TYPICAL MEADOW SKIPPER GAIT----COVERED LOTS OF GROUND FOR SUCH A SMALL HORSE. WE ENDED UP BUYING THE HORSE FOR $50,000.00 DUE TO HIS U-TURNS! WE TOOK HIM TO LIBERTY BELL AND RACED HIM THERE IN THE OPENS!!! ONE THE THE SWEETEST HORSES EVER IN THE STALL. THIS HORSE WAS TOUGH AND HAD HIS OWN MIND FOR A LITTLE GUY! WENT FROM BENNIE DRIVING HIM TO LEW WILLIAMS! THE HORSE WAS NOT AFRAID OF EITHER AND CHALLENGED THEM REGULARLY!! BENNIE AND LEW SWUNG FROM OPPOSITE SIDES BUT MY GOD---YOU COULD HEAR THE STINGING SOUNDS LEAVING OR COMING DOWN THE LANE!
RIP BENNIE! YOU GAVE MY FAMILY SOME GREAT MEMORIES AND WE WILL ALWAYS BE GRATEFUL FOR THOSE THRILLS!

It was always a thrill to see Benny go 3 wide down the backside at RR but mostly at Yonkers!

Herve told Benny before the James b dancer , Benny you got the French rail today meaning the 8 hole and i aint waiting for you ! Benny left and broke and Herve went down the road winning easily. After the race Benny told Herve you had the homefield advantage. They loved each other .

Awesome guy, generous and humorous to the max,,but Benny could carve one like a Thanksgiving turkey when the $$$ was down.
-
He didn´t get the nickname for ¨carving one up¨ not saying he didn´t once in a while. It started when he was called a ¨young whipper snapper¨ I always asked him if he was staying out of trouble and he´d say ¨I haven´t found her yet¨. Sorry Chris
-
I was also told it was not for his use of the whip. In 1979 a man I knew a big party guy and bar owner who ran with Benny told me it was for manhood.
-
No that was the HOG. lol
