I'm not fond of the WEG commentators, but they DO show replays of horses with troubled trips as part of their pre game show.
They also got rid of Monique Vag (finally).

2 guys left the broadcast to become judges. Obviously they weren't paid very well.

A better question is how much more $$$ by legitimate means or like other judges past and present in North America??

tmbz1-Totally agree. Monopolies are never good for the people in general. Mr. Gural obviously has helped racing greatly and is appreciated for doing so. However, being a monopoly and having an attitude of being the sole Judge and Jury-is terrible for the participants.
I remember as a young kid-one of my friends started a game of ringers(marbles) with my friends. I happened to be better than them at the game-so the kid "banned" me from playing!! Some of my friends didn't like it and left with me--but others did --as now they had a chance to win. I always looked upon that kid as an ahole after that, but he "owned" the game and so made the rules.
Mr. Gural reminds me of that kid.

Looks like the world we live in now in 2024 with how politics shapes how we see things!!

Harness Racing / Re: Aaron Merriman is awful

Just remember you guys are witnessing history Aaron will go down as the greatest or one of the greatest drivers to ever sit behind a horse. We are lucky that we got to see him drive or actually had him drive some of our horses. Since the moment Aaron got his license he's never taken his eye off the ball he is the picture of excellence and consistency. He's been knocked down many times but he gets right back up. And no I'm not a family member just somebody that knows talent when they see it.

Thank you for your post here.  FYI, driving at Northfield and The Meadows isn’t proof of any talent especially with the addition of VLT’S (SLOTS). All it means is bigger purses and bigger paychecks for owners, trainers, and drivers. Look how much Northfield has changed over the years before and after slots. Northfield had bigger betting pools and yes 1500 purses when everyone was trying to survive by taking the pools down, compared to all the medical technology of today. At least Dave Palone drove Grand Circuit and important races. Will Aaron?  Probably not, but time will tell.

To me, it is clear and simple: "Too many cooks spoil the broth." When you have mega egos with substantial skin in the game, each believing and acting as if they were more important than the game itself, this is what you get.
Harness racing is a rudderless ship. It is just floating along and goes in the direction the tide and currents will take it.
We need a commission and a Chairman of the Board. The current system of who thinks they are entitled and smarter than the others is extremely self destructive.

Harness Racing / Monti Thursday --- It's my summer break
« Last post by dinkadoo on Today at 11:29:01 AM »
Ahhhhhh, finishing here at my school --- LAST DAY --- Summer Break, hopping in a car heading to Churchill Downs to see my horse I own a small piece of in the 3rd Race tonight....

Monticello

Race 1     #1   nihilated Truth --- was on my list last thursday winning at $11.40  takes a step up in class but with
the rail should be tough -- not going to get 9-2 like last week

#2  Vel Larry --- No shot from the 7 hole, bad cover stuck in behind. never asked but hard to get to
excited on a horse that is 12-0-0-1

Race 2      #2 Weona Sizzler --- Do Not Like --- but just for comical relief watching Veronica drive last week and
the owners hating money, letting her drive again this week - she would have fit well in
yesterday's version of the Amateur Dummy Derby....

Harness Racing / The Miracle
« Last post by Any1Left on Today at 10:51:52 AM »
Gambler's today aren't doing much to help their own cause, they're hoping an angel comes from heaven that performs a miracle and makes racing better. The average gambler needs to let people who can make changes for the good get involved. That does not include making calls to the USTA and WEG, because they're not interested in making the game better. The truth is, I don't know a single person who is doing well in today's racing. The drivers in harness racing believe they can put a shitshow on every night, and the 2 or 3 people that commentate during the down time sit there and talk about the beauty happening in front of them. Racing has never been less competitive and boring that it has been today. I honestly don't even know if there are any bettors left; it's just a ton of addicted gamblers betting $10 a race along with the CAW groups, that's the whole clientele. If you watch a track like western fair, the announcer comes on every race, calling value horses before the odds even come up, how the fuck can a horse be a value horse if you can't even see the odds, its a complete joke the people working there. If you look at thoroughbred tracks like Gulfstream, Santa Anita, and Belmont, they hire people that sleep and breathe racing to do the commentary. The Belmont show has guys there talking about important information, like track bias and how they think the race is going to go. At Santa Anita, the women actually enters $10'000 handicapping contests with her own money, and comes out with amazing information of how horses look on the track. If you watch harness racing, they hire people that are incompetent. Take Hoosier and Woodbine, you'll see a horse be 12:1 in the book, and you know that its a mistake, and that the horse is gonna go off between 6 to 5 and 2 to 1 cause he had tonnes of horse in his last start. The group of people that Hoosier and Woodbine hire don't even watch replays, and don't even have an obvious 6 to 5 shot in their top 4 because they don't know what they're doing. There's only 1 track that cares even a little about the customer, and that's the Meadowlands. No matter how much I read 'Gural does this' and 'Gural does that', at least they do something.
