Money Buys Everything
« on: August 08, 2020, 05:12:11 PM »
Crawford's owners with trainers in Harness and Thoroughbred Industry who killed horses

and no penalty and still have their name up and still are owners. Harness racing needs

some integrity.  The horses died.  You think they did not know the type of people they

were dealing with?

ABSOLUTELY!!! 11.wp 11.wp 11.wp

I remember when I first thought of getting into harness racing..About 35 years ago..the one thing I remember the most is my dad told me " Son, Your going to meet all kinds of people in this business and DONT trust anyone!"

No truer words ever spoken!
In the words of SCM,,I GOTTA EAT!

That whole Alagna ownership group has a profound belief in their own self-importance and utilize their money to dictate to the entire industry in all aspects... from sales, stakes, the media, regulators and track operators. Their money buys them what they perceive as respect, yet 9/10 small horsemen detest what they represent and when they win a race such as the Hambletonian. Their deck in Florida in the winter is nothing but a bunch of well-heeled phoney cunts and everyone who can suck up to them hanging off their coat tails.

Honestly, I look at things objectively. These are just not good people for the most part. Absolutely no jealousy , at least on my part. I have dealt with these individuals in the past and I could not sleep at night knowing I treated people in the manner they have. I deal with people who are honest, not feign honesty. Honesty in action , not in words.

That being said, I don’t think they cheat. Just spend $$$$ in buying and caring for the horses. They just use that money to influence regulators, track management, racing media and the races themselves; at the peril of whoever stands in their way. The inner circle, for the most part, are just bad people, with a few exceptions.

Crash  ....    You say they don't cheat.
If they are racing clean, how do regulators and or track management help them win more ?

Come on now. The Crawfords are the feel-good story of the Summer.  Minus the allegations of dead horses....and the allegations of doping and falsified vet records....and the federal racketeering ones....but besides that---Feel good story of the Summer.

Regulators: by utilizing their money and influence they become chummy with USTA Board members, racing officials, many of w
hom have a history in the horse racing community. By utilizing their influence and connections, they have the ear to push forward their agendas and utilize internal knowledge ( eg. Propulsion ) about ways to walk the minimizing line of requirements to “follow the rules”. The trainer And ownership group utilize these connections and influence to achieve self-interest goals.
Track operators: I’ll sponsor a race or series, you write me the classes and who knows what else.
Media: read today’s HRU... says it all. 10 owners won the whole card of racing, hence get all the publicity. Those same 10 owners and breeders just happen to be advertising with HRU.

Crash, don't get me wrong, I hate cheats.

Not sure what the regulators can do except warn an owner when a drug test is coming, and you started by saying you don't think they cheat.
Agreed, operators can write good conditions for overnight races.  Doesn't help with big money stakes.
As for media coverage, if you win, you get the coverage.    Media don't have time for the 5th place finisher's connections.

I think this is simply an industry of money and numbers.    If you spend enough money on a bunch of well bred babies, and you're willing to drop big bucks on established horses that are for sale, you're going to end up entered and winning a bunch of races.

I cannot define a depth of cheating cause I have no evidence they do. But I can define pompous assholes and an air of self-importance and belittling others. A large proportion of the Alagna ownership group exude these traits.
