i think alot more need to be caught and jailed
Exactly what I've been saying all along start throwing the owners in jail for being knowingly involved. Crawford's knew dammed well what Oakes was doing and payed for it in their training bill.
I'm guessing Chris wasn't billing owners for drugs. Most owners I know just pay their bills & root their horses on. I don't think they actually know when something illegal is going on. Trainers wouldn't be telling their owners hey I got some new stuff no they just use it!!
In many cases the owner as you said just pays the bill and roots their horses on and any extras are are hidden as therapeutic or supplements. But all of us know good competent trainers who feed the best, has a good training regimen but come race day gets beat by the same trainers who at any track are on top of the trainers list week in week out and it doesn't matter who drives the horse. I had a friend who trains in Ontario a few years ago and on my way back from Toronto I thought I would stop in and see him. Well when I pulled up to the barn he was was just coming out of a stall and when he saw me he slipped something into his jacket pocket. He was kind of abrupt and said I caught him at a bad time he had two in to go that night and had to get going because of lasix time. Should I bet both I asked and he said their in shape and should get a piece and after a few minutes he had to get going. When I got home that night I bet a $20 on both and they both won but it was the way they won. They both left from mid post position got the lead and were pressured every step and at the top of the stretch looked cooked but what do you know they hit another gear and open up widening through the stretch. After that it was the last time I saw this trainer even the next day I called a few times to say congrats I got both of them and he never answered so I just gave up on him.
Wake up North American racing. In a recent article Hong Kong racing reported it's North American handle was up 7% over last year. This just proves bettors are waking up and they have had enough of unregulated racing where drugs rule and no one including governments care.
