I try not to, but G is so annoying with his repetitive posts and thinking everyone is Mike, and Paintbrush has a big mouth for a nobody. The next comment he makes about harness racing will be his first.

I was highly skeptical of hosting the Breeders Crown at Scioto Downs in Columbus Ohio. I was very surprised at the event put on and the crowd. They came from Roundtown, Picktown, Grovetucky and Delaware and all other directions. Electric atmosphere all around. The racing was what everyone wanted, like JT said they were on go giving no holes and drivers had to make decisions quickly right or wrong. I don't think 2 turn tracks give you the excitement and really makes driver decisions so important. The lag on this night wasn't horrible if you like to stroll around between races and check out the ladies. The handle is irrelevant for this event it provided decent pools and you didn't have the late drops from CAWs. I now think that Scioto Downs should be in the conservation to host again down the road.

You piss your welfare check away to your bookie.

He pissed it away ordering lunch for all his friends who never showed up

Turns are dumb, you only see podunk shithole little nothing tracks running 6f around.

Some tracks like Belmont are so huge one mile races only see one turn.

1 mile 2 turns is perfect, it should be the standard and Breeders Cup should be about peak performance.

You want 3 turn races at a mile circumference track then do 1 1/2 mile races or so distance this way we could see more Australian, New Zealand, European, global competition.

More money wagered.

America and Canada this shit is getting dull, think big, if you can.

Great post!!!

Come to SOFL...we help the Ohioans rid themselves of the dreary, mundane mid east America vibe  ngc3

Go make a mile track and we'll talk, otherwise see you at Lexington KY for the 27' BC  ;D

I don't like the whole walking interview thing. Everyone's used to doing interviews in the circle following the race. Do it there. Walking and talking just doesn't lead to a good interview TV experience. Also, before Scioto hosts again they should upgrade their cameras. Subpar video for this day and age. Not crisp at all. And I found myself missing both the trackus and the split screen views. Otherwise, I think it was fine. If they make a few changes there's no reason they shouldn't be able to host again. I like 5/8th mile racing. Big enough that all but the worst of interferers can get around it. Small enough to still see some great movement vs the single file indian trails of the larger tracks.

That being said I am looking forward to Red Mile next year. Hopefully, they'll do it right with interesting back stories and some actual advertising. Historically they've been more vested in casino operations than actual live racing.

There were few good payoffs. OTN was the only horse to pay over $20. There have been chalky BC on big tracks too.
I don't like 5/8 racing. The racing was not bad.
Dunn continues to dominate. No one is close to him.
Melander continues his big year with 3 wins. Harris got some bang for his big spending owner. 2 wins and a big year for Brandon Blvd. Pelling won 2 too.
Handle was not big for Crown nights. That seems to matter less and less.
John Rallis is terrific. Does the best interviews IMO.
Overall it was decent. I believe the sport needs more for these races.

Some good take-aways here. I was not initially a fan of the BC being held at Scioto Downs. More importantly, with the changes we've seen in the last 20 years or so of driving, I was absolutely not going to be a fan of having it on a 5/8ths. But, that's a conversation for another time.....

Take-aways from the races.....I am surprised I haven't been reading more about it.....but Jim Cambell's colt.....one hell of a performance. Very nice colt. Underrated trainer. HOF trainer too. Two Hambo's! Big victory for a guy who was virtually private trainer for Jules Siegel, had just a couple of outside horses through the years-----and when Siegel had his dispersal last year, Jim was left with very few horses. Hope this brings him some opportunities.

Recently Jim said some people didn't realize Siegel sold all his horses, and he ran an ad in a publication looking for new clients.

I know. I saw the ad and I was surprised-----even without the ad-----that Jim didn't pick up clients. Everyone in the business knew Siegel was getting out. It was huge news, again, just in the business. He announced and had his dispersal fairly quickly, which didn't really leave Jim a lot of time to drum up business. But I am surprised he didn't really get any. Guy has an excellent track record going way back. Other than a couple of years where he left the business, he's a lifer with an excellent track record.

A proven high class trotting man. He did leave the business to open a pizza joint on the Jerzy shore.  The man can sling a pie and hang a trotter.

Jim is one of the best of the true horsemen left in the game.
