My family raced at Georgetown for those $500 purses. I remember cold as shit those nights.
My father and I made a literally 400 mile round trip to Georgetown in 1971, once in January, once in June. And we lived just 11 miles from Yonkers Raceway.
Still have the programs, they look as good as new. Yup, we were nuts.

To my regret Roger is one of the last of a dying breed.
The all in one owner/trainer/breeder/and sometimes driver.
I made a fast scan of the friday and saturday crown programs.
Little Road is the only crown horse 100% owned by her single breeder/owner/and trainer. That being Roger.
Only one other overnight horse is 100% owned by its breeder /trainer.
That being Don'ttouchmytruck in the 11th race saturday.
Judy  L. Roegner
I am afraid I also fit in that dying category.
I am just an old horse trainer still going around in circles. Sometimes Fast. Sometimes Half-Fast.

I never got along with Roger back in the day when I raced the PA fairs but I respected him. I used to always say that he could make chicken salad out of chicken shit.

I remember him from Brandywine when his then father-in-law Jim Crane used to put him down to drive his horse "Judge" when he was in a good spot.

I was at Liberty Bell at that time. I knew Jim. He was a nice guy. Nero was a monster.
