Best bargains at the London City Yearling Sale?
« on: October 13, 2026, 12:25:47 PM »
Follow Doc Moore's strategy (if you have the time and the $$$ to do so).

1- A few weeks before sale, visit all the farms that have yearlings subscribed and take note of the ones that stand out to you.

2- On sale day mornings, set up your own personal ultrasound and x-ray machines in a quiet corner.

3- Have the consignors bring the horses you had previously noted over to your own personal space at the sale so you can x-ray and ultrasound them, making sure they have clean legs, knees have filled etc....

Now, as a layman bidder, put a $$ value on the ones you like (or even don't like)
And if possible, carefully watch Doc Moore and see what horses he bids on based on the homework he has done over the previous weeks.

If any horse he bids on if about to sell for a price less than the value you put on it, there's a pretty good chance that you're getting a good deal.

For a jurisdiction that claims to be world class, what a joke of a sale. Half the horses are at a loss to the breeder, reminds me of the mid-ohio sales of the late 90's. I suspect most of the breeders will pack it in moving forward as that is no sustainable which is lead to even more of a horse shortage up there. Every day tens of horses are sold to the US and that doesn't seem to be slowing down. I always wondered why so many Canadians spend so much money down here.

The big sires will be fine.
Cattlewash and Bulldog will bring good numbers.

That will not keep them alive and without Darling you don't even get 75K Cdn for top bulldog. Ontario is in big trouble.

Isn’t there still over 100 Ontario breds to sell in Harrisburg?

you’re going to continue to see Mcwicked’s and Dancin Lou’s sell for nothing with the take over of Bulldog and Cattlewash

  • dougie: No tournament play there. Two many young cowboys bullying us old guys. Just straight poker. A lot of fun, but you could get hurt if you don't know the players.

  • Trigger: When I refer to cash game I'm thinking non tourn or sit n go, casinos I've played in never let you play for cash only chips but technically a ring game is a cash game too.

  • dougie: Private games are cash only. But the table uses chips to cause no confusion. Buy-in it $1G with 2 other buy in allowed. It is strictly Texas Holdem. Is is no limit but most of the players know each other. No kids playing. I'd say the average age was about 40. Food is included. Usually subs and pizza. Occasionally Chinese food.
