DaytonOver 1.7 million in purses and can't even handle 1 million. What a fucking embarrassment. The Meadowlands handles nearly 3 million with amateur races. Ohio is a cesspool.
With the exception of the Meadowlands and possibly Mohawk, name tracks which consistently cover the purses with the takeout from handle.
Hard to bet those Ohio short tracks Breeders crown will be a disaster Their clubhouse is old. Crappy food
Off the top of my head, Monticello, Northfield, Batavia, Hoosier, Saratoga.
If Saratoga and Batavia are covering I will kiss your ass on Main St in any city in the USA.
You stupid non horsemen jerkoffs always forget the huge expense of maintaining their barn area.
Your post makes no sense in connection with the post you replied to. The point is most tracks are not covering the purses let alone the cost of actually operating the track. It is government HANDOUTS which are paying the purses.
Percentage of casino revenue fills the purse fund, but doesn't handle and simulcasting revenue cover the expenses of opening the doors and hosting racing? If handle doesn't cover the operating expenses then the owners have to go into their pockets. So in theory the more a track handles the less they lose?
As someone who doesn't want to see any racetracks go under, especially The Meadowlands, I think the delicate dance between casinos, racetracks, and the state have lots of issues. I was at Plainridge yesterday. Very small crowd but some big races for big money. I'd wager, in all those big races with some of racings top drivers, the handle made it to $250,000 for the whole card.So the track depends on casino dollars and stae help. It's not ideal. But again, I don't want to see the tracks fold. Today, i'm at Foxwoods. Crowds are small here too! There is a big concern about the three casinos opening in NYC. One slot manager told me they expect a drop off of 25%-30% as players no longer have to drive/bus up to Foxwoods/Mohegan Sun for the action. So as the gambling pie gets divided even further, many tracks and casinos will face deep challenges to their business model.
There's so much competition out there and only so much money to go around. Now add sports betting legal everywhere and the prediction sites. The gambling market is over saturated.
