Trump's approval rating drops to new low in poll ahead of key midterms

President Donald Trump's approval rating reached a new low in the Wall Street Journal's polling, marking the lowest approval for an incumbent president heading into the midterm elections among the outlet's decades of surveys.

The poll, released over the weekend, found Trump’s approval rating at 37%, the lowest for a president leading into the midterms since the Wall Street Journal began polling in 1990, when former President George H.W. Bush was in office.

Trump’s lower approval rating comes as Americans continue to express deep disapproval of the economy and the president’s role in it. According to the latest poll, 65% said the economy was not strong, and 60% said that Trump’s policies have made the economy worse.

The Wall Street Journal poll was conducted Sept. 16-21 among 1,500 registered voters with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.

Shades of 2006
According to the WSJ poll, the most comparable mark since 1990 was former President George W. Bush ahead of the 2006 midterm elections, when he had a 39% approval rating.

In that year’s midterms, amid a deeply unpopular war in Iraq, Democrats gained five seats in the Senate and 31 in the House of Representatives. That gave them control of both chambers of Congress for the first time in a decade.

Twenty years later, polls show that many Americans are critical of the war in Iran. Democrats have held leads ranging from five to 11 percentage points over the GOP in multiple surveys when participants were asked who they want to control Congress.

What do polling averages show?
While individual polls vary, major polling averages continue to place Trump in negative territory overall:

New York Times (Sept. 28): 37% approve, 60% disapprove
Silver Bulletin (Sept. 28): 37.4% approve, 60.1% disapprove

ADMIN needs to take some responsibility for the good of the site.

No one should wish death or sexual assault on anyone's family.    No need for that.
Two guys shouldn't go back and forth, saying nothing new, ruining topics.
No one should have more than one ID and account.

That shouldn't be too much to expect or administer.
Pretty bare basics.

A news outlet ( forgot which one) had a copy of an internal memo  with gop pollsters. It said that if you were in a district that the gop is normally +15 consider yourself tied.  In a district that is normally gop  +10 you are under water.

I read that!  Not good!

it will get worse every day now as the midterms are around the corner and Trump continues to make it worse for the 'guys in red' (commi's)!

I was in East Texas last week and there were billboards asking gop-ers to not stay home and come out and vote. Not for a specific candidate but asking to show up.
There must be some real concern about gop apathy.

Not good!  I still don't fathom Trump saying vote as if I'm running!  That's an invitation for a landslide concerning where we are today!

You know it's not my nature to discuss politics but have a question for you. Even if Trump's approval ratings are bad, don't the Democrats still have to come up with a legitimate candidate good enough to win and right now no one has emerged but it's still early.

One of those two most likely will be the nominee. The Democrats need some fresh blood in there like an Obama type but is one out there?

It's been floated out there that just before trump's term ends, he resigns and vance becomes President and as President he pardons trump for the list of illegal things he has done. So as that time draws near trump backs vance in the vance/rubio contest as the gop nominee.

I think Beshar has a big chance.

Trump better start his pardon process now!  Early January might be a living hell for him and his clan!
