Sears driving in next year's Hambo Oaks??
« on: September 03, 2026, 05:07:57 AM »
Friday at Vernon he steers a very promising Ake Svanstedt 2yo trotting filly in the $110,200 New York Sire Stakes event.  He has 3 other drives, one on a Rob Harmon horse, but those are not $$ races.

If he can get back to where he was, he's a great set of hands. Would love to see him back on the scene if he's still got it.

Sears should do well in Kentucky. They don't have a strong year around driving colony.

Went back to the Motherland at Vernon. I used to work for Grandpa Gene before Brian was even a twinkle in Dad’s Jay eye. Comes from a feat harness family.

I guess time will tell but I find it hard to believe that after his multi year vacation he is going to move to Kentucky and drive full time between OH and KY at his age.  I can see him doing exactly what he is doing now sitting around until babies come out and driving for a few select trainers.  I’m sure melander tried multiple times to get him off the couch before locking in Dex.

I can't count his money, nor get inside his head. However, I suspect financially he's OK and that means if he's going to come back and drive full time-----he's doing it by choice and not by necessity. While he's had his demons, I hope he's in a place where he's handled them, manages them, and so on-----and again, if he comes back to drive full time, he's doing so because he wants to, for all the right and healthy reasons. Last time I saw him and spoke to him he seemed like he was happy, healthy, and in a good place. If he does come back full time, unless the circumstances show me something drastically different, I'd have no problem with him driving for me.
