“WE’LL BOMB THE SH*T OUT OF THEM!” Trump threatens to attack U.S. partner Oman if it “gets in the way” of his Iran war!
Donald Trump just threatened to bomb Oman, a longtime American partner that is trying to help negotiate a way out of his escalating war with Iran.
Fox News chief foreign correspondent Trey Yingst revealed Monday morning that he had just gotten off the phone with Trump as the 60-day memorandum of understanding with Iran expires.
Trump told him Iran should “raise the white flag of surrender,” although he insisted he was in no hurry.
Then Yingst asked about Oman. The country has been involved in parallel negotiations with Iran over control of the Strait of Hormuz, where the conflict has disrupted shipping and helped send economic shock waves around the world.
“If Oman gets in the way, we'll bomb the sh*t out of them,” Trump told Yingst.
To be clear, Oman is NOT an enemy of the United States – it has long maintained friendly relations with Washington and has repeatedly served as an intermediary with Iran precisely because it has relationships with both countries.
And those diplomatic efforts are very real and ongoing as we speak.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Iranian diplomats recently agreed with Oman on a plan to establish routes through Hormuz and gradually reopen the strait. The effort was blocked by Iran's hard-line Revolutionary Guard, which resumed their attacks on ships.
But the threat against Oman wasn’t the only remarkable revelation from Trump's conversation with Yingst.
Trump confirmed that his administration has a direct back channel to that very same Revolutionary Guard, and that American officials are communicating with IRGC officials even as the hard-line force has been involved in attacks against U.S. forces and shipping.
So Trump's negotiators are willing to talk directly to Iranian hard-liners, while at the same time threatening to bomb the country trying to mediate the conflict. [Editor's note: WTF?]
The United States once depended on countries such as Oman to keep diplomatic doors open when wars threatened to spiral beyond anyone's control.
Now the president of the United States is threatening to bomb our strong ally that is trying to help us.
That's not diplomacy. That's how an already dangerous war on the edge of catastrophe gets even more dangerous.
