"Number two, you know, I mean, the Democratic Party, I mean, they’re lost. They had a bad few months. We all know this. And even though there’s a lot of qualified Democrats all over the country from a local perspective — governors, mayors, stuff like that — there’s no real national voice. Enter moi. They’ve come to me," said Smith. "And so, I mean, I did not ask for this. I don’t want this. I happen to have a very, very, very good life, very good job. I’m good, very good."
I have no doubt he's been approached by certain Dems to see if it's a possibility. But the Dems will divide on old school liberals and young progressives. There will probably be about 15-20 people vying early for momentum heading toward the early "buzz'. He may be one of them. But as they drop out on "vetting" and policy shifts, he might be viable at the convention.

“Do I believe I would take Gavin Newsom out? Yes, I do. Yes, I do. Do I believe I would go against Kamala and beat her? Yes, I do,” Smith said. “I think I’d beat most of the Democratic Party. Because there’s too much dancing — and I don’t dance.”

He continued, "Because you sound like one of those old curmudgeons that want things to be the way that they used to be. And you are resentful, harboring an abundance of animosity because you are not being heard. That is not Stephen A. Smith’s fault, sir. That’s that damn Democratic Party that I was talking about."

Smith took to criticizing the Democratic Party in the wake of former Vice President Kamala Harris’ loss to President Donald Trump, leading some to speculate that he could be gearing up to run for office. His attack on the latest brand of Democratic liberalism is grounded in a critique of so-called “wokeness” and cancel culture, but also on a culture of elite condescension that he says “swapped out kitchen-table issues for a series of alluring, and ultimately destructive, ideas about justice.”
