Andrew, I have watched a few interviews with Stephen A Smith. The Bill Mahar interview too! He's an intriguing prospect. The progressives will hate him. The moderate Dems will think he's a a "closet" Republican. And the GOP will think that he's a "closet" Democrat. LOL! He's well liked by a lot of people, but raising money to run will be a big issue.

Stephen A. Smith called out the glaring double standard in how ICE is portrayed depending on who is president.

While Smith has been a Democrat for much of his life, he has admitted in 2025 that he might not be as ideologically rigid as some think. He acknowledged voting for Kamala Harris in 2024 but later questioned that decision, suggesting he could be more centrist or even switch parties if he ran for office The Spun. He has also said he wants to have a “profound impact” on the 2028 White House race, even if not running himself The Hill.

“I would be running as a Democrat, because I think the Democratic Party is in shambles right now, because I think it’s leaned too far left,” he said. “And I think that it needs to come a bit closer to the center, so we can come across as a bit more sensible.”

I agree with Smith. I think some Dems are moving way to left. The "Clinton" Democrats may actually be in the minority at the mid-terms. Maybe not the "Dixiecrats" in the south. But in the cities of the notheast and the far west, the progressive have a tight hold on the youth and disenfranchised voters.

“I don’t want to see less police officers. I want to see more police officers. I heard [New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani] talk about mental health experts in the subway system. I don’t care about that. I want cops in the subways in New York City...that’s what I want. I don’t want to hear about no damn mental health experts in subways.” (Straight Shooter With Stephen A., 2025)

The political and legacy media landscape is in an awkward, transitional phase, largely due to Donald Trump’s return to office. With Trump’s resurgence in popularity and the rise of misinformation and fake news, major political networks struggle to balance coverage, legitimacy, and audience trust. Media outlets constantly grapple with accusations of bias, sensationalism, and the difficulty of fact-checking in a hyperpolarized climate. Social media further amplifies misleading narratives, making it harder for audiences to separate fact from agenda-driven content. Stephen A. himself has openly told his viewers that the Democratic Party has consistently failed African Americans and cannot be trusted, further feeding into the skepticism many Americans already hold toward traditional news sources. Stephen A.’s control over discourse is unmatched, and in today’s polarized media landscape, this is his ideal moment to step in.

"If I had to run it would be as a Democrat, but I’m not happy with the Democratic Party," Smith said. "It would pretty much need to be purged."

In summary, Stephen A. Smith is traditionally a Democrat, but his recent statements indicate he is centrist-minded, willing to critique his own party, and open to evaluating candidates from either party based on their policies and performance

Stephen A. Smith delivered a forceful defense of capitalism and the American dream Thursday on his SiriusXM program, "Straight Shooter with Stephen A.," accusing the socialist wing of the Democratic Party of portraying the United States as the source of Americans' economic struggles.

He is a Democrat and will have to run as one. But whether party elites controlled by the Obama centrist wing of the party would take a chance on getting him the nomination is a big "IF". The AOC/Sanders progressive wing will reject him outright. I see little chance of him ever even "getting in the game". But his overall support of any one candidate might help someone in the primary.

"Number two, you know, I mean, the Democratic Party, I mean, they’re lost. They had a bad few months. We all know this. And even though there’s a lot of qualified Democrats all over the country from a local perspective — governors, mayors, stuff like that — there’s no real national voice. Enter moi. They’ve come to me," said Smith. "And so, I mean, I did not ask for this. I don’t want this. I happen to have a very, very, very good life, very good job. I’m good, very good."
