Friday evening weather. Good thing they canceled.
Severe storms with wind gusts up to 80 mph swept across North and Central New Jersey, bringing down trees and power lines, blocking roads, and causing widespread damage. More than 200,000 customers lost power at the peak of the outages. By Saturday morning, about 148,000 JCP&L, 27,000 PSE&G, and hundreds of Orange & Rockland customers remained without electricity. In Morris County alone, over 53,000 JCP&L customers were affected after a substation near the Morris Plains train station went offline.
