Here's an fitting one for your thread, especially since tonight was The Battle.

Toast To The Flying Turns

Here's a poem I call "A Toast To The Flying Turns",
I 'll leave it addressed simply, 'To Whom it concerns"

A third straight 'Battle', this year , I did attend.
As a lifelong harness fan, their efforts , I commend.

The racing was first rate, with several records set.
As for pari-mutual access, well it was easy to place a bet

They brought together the finest , to ever go 'Head to head'
About the whole night, nary a bad word could be said.

We just showed up, our group, they were ready for.
As for hospitality, you couldn't ask for more.

They brought some fine drivers, from east to the 'Great white north'
And when we needed early pace, we had Herve to go forth.

They blistered to the quarter in a brisk, twenty-six and three,
'Apache' was on the outside , yearning to go free.

They got down to the half, fifty-five two they were clocked,
Peter Wrenn tipped outside, on the rail he wouldn't be locked.

Herve got Apahe's Fame and 'hung him out to dry',
Only to straighten down the backside, and see Dare You To go by.

He opened up by three before Ray could turn loose 'Jake',
By then only a belated effort could Remman make.

Yes, Dare You To was gone, and he'd not be caught,
Another 'Battle' raced, another 'Battle' fought.
