the best we can hope for is that they hook up 3-4 times this year and have some epic battles
i agree harness racer , the sport needs it
casual fans or non fans love a hero but there has to be someone to push them
niatross, secretariat, yankees, dodgers, celtics etc, fans love dynasty and stars but someone has to be the foil
think ali and frazier etc

the bigger question is if this rivalry takes place who in the harness racing establishment is smart enough to know how to capitalize on it and make it a main stream story

I don't agree with you much, but your take on Bobblehead Bob is spot on.  He is as crooked as they come and will eventually get BJ beat!  I hope there is a horse out there to give him some kind of rivalry.  Good for the game!   tmbz1

I'm sure we'll find common ground beyond one of the biggest scumholes to put the colors on  ngc3

I want what you want but...

An owner and trainer strategizing on a plan to beat BJ, with one, even two...is bat sh!t...never, they want to win, build their own horse's legacy and fill their coffers and enter as a champion stud.

He'll race against those resigned to place

BJ faces every great horse's reality - a bad day, bad racing luck,  not a wish, just a statistical reality the more your race, otherwise he's improving at a rate where he'll go undefeated this year too building and improving, and then seek to break the world record at 4, undefeated.

I don't think you can compare at this point. ODDS ON MR MAMBA has been, to this point a regional sire stake horse. He's a very nice horse and has good connections. I hope they do well. He could really step up on the grand circuit stage.   But you are comparing one horse who is approaching $2 million who won a metro and breeders crown to a horse who won $500k and some sire stakes.   You can't really compare at all yet.   I'm sure others will step up but right now BJ is the King.

Probably not -- but Melillo and Brandon Blvd have the best shot.

Yup. If BJ had only won the Ontario SS and dodged the grand circuits, even as impressive as he's looked, everyone would be saying "wait'll he faces someone legitimate."

That said, just because OO Mr Mamba has only demolished sire stakes doesn't mean he CAN'T make that step up. I'll admit I know nothing about him, will find some replays next.

I have the utmost respect for Beau, but the odds are (no pun intended) he will get beat at some point. All the greats have and sometimes racing luck just plays out that way. I haven't personally seen one this year I'd classify as better than him but I don't this division that closely. Mellilo seems to have improved a good bit, whereas Burke's other good one from last year, Frantic Hvr, seems to have gone the other way so far.

  • Sweet: The fact of the matter is the win pool on Beau Jangles was I believe a negative pool,  his real odds not 1/9 but 1/99.  Enough already, we're the real patrons of thius F'ing sport, many of us also care for these animals despite the best don't want drugs and whipping, abuse.  Competition yes!
