Suggestion for Mike Petrelli

Mike isn't big on suggestions or opinions, so I'm confident this will go over like a lead balloon, but anyway!!

If advocacy for the humane treatment of Standardbred horses is Mike's passion and purpose, his energy and investigative skill should be directed toward an intervention that will have the greatest positive outcome.
Directing energy toward one trainer or one owner or one racing administration, will only result in change relative to the size of that players barn or that administrators reach.   A very finite number of horses are safer or humanely handles.

Why not go after an intervention that would result in 10's of 1000's of horses being disposed of in the most humane way possible after their racing value has finished.  Today a majority of them end  up in inhumane service industries or worse still, horrific end of life kill pens.

Mike, go after a big piece of legislation that would require all Standardbred Horses to meet their end of life, either by natural causes on a retirement farm, (impossible to handle the numbers) or by humane, vet administered euthanasia.   Whoever is on record, owning that animal at the time, is responsible for the cost.

Sorry, I have not followed your facebook group over the years, but I think my point would stand that going after individuals one or more at a time, even over years, has a positive outcome for a limited number of horses.   Euthanasia legislation would become the responsibility of every standardbred horse owner, affecting 10's of 1000's of equine athletes and it would be enforceable.

Two months ago a gentleman personally presented NYS Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner my bio and statement regarding horse racing in NYS and all the ugly truth to go.with it. Again, it's all on my Facebook group well documented. This is what Carrie leads...

Harness Racing is full of and run by scum, that should all drop dead if they're not for these horses living out their retirement lifespan with the best possible accommodations and benefits!

Mike, I've often wondered how certain people get these committees. Does this Assemblywoman have any experience with the horse racing industry? What qualifies her to make or suggest policy initiatives? At least Florida's Rep. was from a horse racing family. It didn't help anyway. But at least he had some knowledge of the sport.

I agree. I have to tell you that Mike P. kind of opened my eyes. I know it's been over 30 years, but I was told all four of my horses went to the Amish. Now I ask myself, did they really go there? Or did something else happen? I'll never know for sure what happened to those horses. Geez.....
