Blast from the past: Glen Garnsey
« on: February 17, 2026, 11:34:35 AM »
Did well with Abercrombie. Used to love to see the Castleton Farm stable show up at the stable area for Grand Circuit week. They had great colors with that purple.Glen had a good run with them for quite awhile.

Then there’s his old dad Garland. He was quite the horseman. One summer Garland’s stable was right behind who I was working for.

yes, he did well with Abercrombie of course

a really good horse named No Nukes he had--but unfortunately he butchered his drives frequently on that one--which was a shame because the horse could have had a much better record

If you start to talk of all his horses, I feel you have to mention Fan Hanover.
Filly winning The Jug was and still is big news.

A real horseman who carried himself with class,    Stan BERGSTEIN said years ago that familys have been around forever when it comes to developing a young horse and a 100 years from now you will still see the name like KOPAS AND MILLER,HAUGHTON AND others,  That story never worked out and a 100 years from now most standerbreds will be AMISH horses and menonite,

As others said, Glen Garnsey was an excellent horseman. Truly one of the greats.

As far as No Nukes, actually-----Ben Webster bred the horse with Bill Brooks, and their deal was to sell the foals. When No Nukes sold as a yearling and Steve Demas bought him (for himself and Vince Vinci), Benny stayed in and retained an interest. Benny drove him as a 2yo. After his 2yo year, he was syndicated and Glen drove him as a 3yo.

Garland and Glen were great horsemen. Sam Sergi was a barber and cut Garlands hair that's how he got into the horse business. After that he opened a pizza parlor.

Sam Sergi still owns some horses that race in NY.
