kantseeback, I too have seen the articles about what both sides want. I am totally against any government shutdown for any reason. What I had hoped is that the GOP would allow an extension of Obamacare subsidies for another 12 months while thay try and fix the healthcare mess with the Dems.  I also feel that the most vulnerable in our society who always seem to get "the shaft" while wealthy Congress members collect their checks need to be protected. Programs that feed people who truly need it should never be part of this stupid government shutdown. I know that the Dems want many of the programs cut and not included in the Big Beautiful Bill. I agree with many of those cuts. But as a GOPer, cutting food and medicine for the poor will always be a "non-starter" for me.

Bingo. Funny how none of the Congress has offered to defer their salary to help pay SNAP benefits. They all just want to blame the other side. And Trump that has no vote on the issue. Sadly I feel that the Democrats are using the shutdown to try to win more elections next week. Too bad people have such a short memory because every voter should vote against sitting members of congress next time they are up for reelection and that goes for both sides
