Jeff has done wonders he deserves all the accolades
I was with my wife opening night at the Meadowlands in 1976. Must have been about 40,000 there that night. I remember they ran out of ice cream sandwiches after the 5th race. LOL! Horseman shipped in from everywhere looking for a piece of history.

I’m not sure why Gural seems so optimistic with a Meadowlands casino.  Was voted down years ago and I don’t see what has changed voters minds to now vote yes (NJ is corrupt like no other so must be stuff behind the scenes we don’t know about).  Let’s just say he gets casino approval, is he going to put it on 3rd floor where Trotters and Pink are?  Build an attachment on to Fanduel/track building?

It's simple. Every referendum in the past was worded as would you approve a casino outside AC. It was always voted down and by a large margin. The next referendum will be worded specifically as would you approve a casino-----specifically at Monmouth Park and the Meadowlands. Several recent polls have shown this referendum would pass. Maybe Gural is naive. Maybe he's in denial. Maybe he is posturing. Maybe he knows something/a lot more than we know. Maybe, maybe, maybe. I guess we will soon see.

I was also an attendance opening night Ray Remmen won the first race. Mob scene

Do these wonders include being the first harness track to let the CAWs into their pools?

It will be a closer vote than last time due to the economic issues facing NJ voters. The promise of good paying casino jobs and more money going into the state's treasury might get Gural over the finish line this time.

100% tmbz1 Everyone in NJ. will be looking to get all their taxes lowered! A casino could help, voters will be checking the yes box.

Perhaps, but certainly the specific location of a new casino. The reason it has always been voted down-----by a lot-----is NIMBY. Tax dollars, jobs, you name it, has never been able to overcome that nobody wants it in their hometown.

Give Gural 10 casinos, but harness racing has to come to an abrupt halt.  Maybe it can come back on line, I doubt you can remove the systematic corruption out of it so it can, so I don't think so.

If it dies, it dies, we'll mourn it here and no one in the world at large will even know it's gone.

Every great moment we've all had in harness racing has since happened a long time ago.

Accept that already.

You could be right GH. But I think that the vote will be really close whichever way it goes. I do hope Gural and the Meadowlands get it. Just to see what he does with it.

Politically speaking, they've done everything they could do. Sen. Sarlo is behind this. That's major. He was not part of any prior referendum. However, they are rushing this. They have one year. Not a long time given the task. I think if they educate and do what they need to, and even more of that with the people who live in within, I don't know, 10 miles or so of the Meadowlands, and the same with Monmouth Park, I say it passes by a good margin. If it doesn't, I still say there will be a casino, most likely at either the Meadowlands or Monmouth, but certainly outside AC, by 2035, 2040 the latest.

I am just repeating myself here....

I am not sure why Gural thinks he will be annointed a casino anytime soon

the last referendum ended in an overwhelming NO by the NJ voters

when this occurs-- technically it usually takes a few years to get it on the ballot again to have a chance at being passed

Gural must have dipped into his own pocket to NJ politicians just to get this on the ballot in Nov 2026

as far as NY putting pressure on getting this done is complete nonsense-

as far as a M1 casino saving harness racing-that is also complete nonsense

the streets wont suddenly be paved in gold and everyone wont get a new truck/trailer like they actually believe
