Question of the day:  This was only Day 1 at Lexington, will there be any money left for Harrisburg in about 5 weeks?  Inquiring minds want to know!

Inquiring minds asked the same thing last year. They will ask again next year. But last year guns were blazing at both sales

The people buying top yearlings will never run out of money. They are playing with their fun money not taking out loans or emptying their retirement funds. Mrs Key inherited over a billion when Bob passed She can continue to buy all the horses she wants and probably just using the interest with out ever touching the principal. With the 100% depreciation anyone that had a good year would be a fool not to spend all profits on another horse

You're bang on. Anyone that can spend %150k on a yearling isn't worried about loosing it.  It's not the first time somebody blew some money on the prospect of a hot new stud.

It is if you race in Kentucky. Crazy money that's only going to get better. All the bigger stables are building farms there. Even people new to the business are setting up operations there. Owners of the Red Mile are sharp and know how to make the state's racing grow.

Two words "duel eligibility".

It will kill the grand circuit.

Top end is thriving, per usual. Though I did notice some historical big spender(s) curtailing their spending pretty significantly.

Days 4 & 5 will tell you something about if 2025 follows 2024..middle to low end, the bottom fell through last year, particularly at HBG. I'm sure some of those horses went on to be decent 2yos but the breeders of anything under top- or upper-middle class sires/dams took a real bath.

Day 4 will give you a decent preview. Day 5 less so as it picks back up with OH/IN sired.

If you haven't already, take a look at the video of the filly that has topped the sale.
Hip # 70
She looks solid, she's sharp, she floats on air and she is full of herself.
I know it's only a video, but she is fun to look at.

A big advantage for people in Indiana, Ohio, and even Illinois to buy these horses as they are closer to Kentucky. Were the sales prices higher because of this important factor?

It is amazing how AMAC got the Ariana G colt by Walner for 48,000

The 3yo half sister by Greenshoe and the 2yo full brother both won today at The Red Mile.

Both trained by Melander which makes you also wonder why they didn't want the colt
