No, almost 40.
Wasn’t Davey the manager that got ejected from a game and showed back up in the dugout wearing a disguise?

1973
The Launching Pad in Atlanta
pre steroids
Chief Noc-a-Homa demanded overtime pay..maybe, cause Atlanta Stadium teepees weren't cheap you know.

5th place Braves Homerun madness that season, under tutelage of Manager and former Braves slugger Eddie Mathews. "Sure weve got no pitching, who cares!!"

DAVEY JOHNSON
43 Homers, a MLB secondbaseman rec.
DARRELL EVANS
41 Homers
HENRY AARON (39 yrs old, and a season before bball immortality #715)
40 Homers

First MLB team three players with 40+ in a season
**Colorado Rockies sluggers, in their own Denver launching pad did it twice later in '96, '97**
-
Plus, Dusty Baker 21, Mike Lum 16, Ralph Garr 11, etc. added
to the Braves' barrage 50+ yrs ago.

Yikes.

I believe he is still the winningest manager in their history.  In 1986 he had his hands full trying to wrangle "Camera Carter", Keith Hernandez, red-neck Wally Backman, wildman Lenny Dykstra, the Joker, Roger McDowell and the coke twins, Strawberry and Gooden.  Wow...what a circus.

It is ironic that he is connected to both Mets World Series as he won the AL 1969 Gold Glove as the Orioles' 2B in 1969, the team the Mets beat for their first World Series (I was at the games!!)

Having started as a Brooklyn Dodgers fan, migrating to become a Mets fan was great preparation for when I moved to Seattle in 2005 to become a Mariners fan.  The Mets have won 2 World Series in their 64 years and the Mariners have never even been to the World Series in their 48 years till this season (where it is still possible, but highly unlikely.)

As Mike C. Answered it was Bobby V. But Dave’s had a really funny incident when he had an argument with an umpire at first base (I forget if Mets were playing Braves or Reds?) as he screamed at umpire his big front horse tooth came flying out  73cv.2

He made the last out for the Orioles in game 5 in 1969 series giving the Mets their first WS.

Mariners should have made it in 2001 when they tied record for most wins EVER

When he made the last out of 69 WS, I thought the ball was gone.
Cleon Jones caught that last out. Orioles were a power house team with a top 4 rotation of superstars, Mets had destiny on their side.

Their rotation was so good, the following year, all 4 starters won 20 or more games and they won the WS in 5 games over the Reds.
