BG’s Bunny

LOL...always brings a smile to my face. Trained (and driven) by an old friend, the late George Berkner. I would say B.G.'s Bunny may have ultimately been a dud compared to what many expected. He goes back to the old Beryl Hanover family. However, I would say B.G.'s Bunny ended up a very successful broodmare sire and had a very positive impact on that generation of breeding.

Nansemond???

Actually, if you look at Tar Heel, and the Tar Heel line of where his line/pedigree has gone, other than through his daughters.....his line did not really progress that much. Tar Heel he became a very strong broodmare sire.

You can buy shares of TDS for $5,000. Pretty much says he's not commercial!

hanover web site says they had 13 foals born in 225 by tds
he is a regional sire now that will mostly get mares from smaller farms/breeders that just want to race in PA and pay $5,000 for a stud fee, other than that he is toast with all the new sires on the market

AND ChatGPT says:
"In harness racing, the most notable example of a sire who was considered
average at stud but became a great broodmare sire is Volomite.
Volomite had only modest success as a sire of racehorses, but his daughters proved to be exceptional broodmares, making him a major influence on the breed and a renowned maternal sire in the Standardbred world. His impact is a classic case in harness racing of a stallion's legacy being primarily established through the success of his female progeny. "

Speaking of Volomite.
Old trainer and young trainer are at the fence watching colts train.
Colt goes by  jumping, bucking, and kicking.
Old trainer
"Looks like that colt has to much volomite in him"
Young trainer
"How much and how far out do you give that stuff"

Not sure who ChatGPT is but he's way off the mark here. Volomite's legacy is predominantly with his paternal (male) line -- being responsible for the Somebeachsomewher e line on the pacing side and the Worthy Boy and Victory Song line on the trotting side. Somebeachsomewher e and his numerous siring sons are on the verge of becoming the greatest pacing sire line ever and that line traces back to Volomite. On the trotting side Worthy Boy has brought us the Nevele Pride and Super Bowl sire lines and Victory Song has brought us the Garland Lobell sire line which extends to Chapter Seven and Walner. Volomite's paternal presence with both gaits dominates the sport over any other sire for the last hundred years. He was an exceptional broodmare sire but his legacy lasts through his paternal supremacy.

tds did not/cannot destroy the breed
however he did do some significant damage to hanover, brittany and alagna  and likely a few others to a lesser extent

I asked Chat GPT about Bettor's Delight sons

Why Bettor’s Delight Has Few Successful Stallion Sons

1. He is a “breed-shaper,” not a sire of sires

Some stallions pass on brilliance to their daughters, but not reliably through sons.
Bettor’s Delight is famous for:

Very high fertility

Very high percentage of race-winning offspring

Extreme consistency

But his sons rarely stamp their foals like he does. This happens with certain elite stallions in many breeds.

2. He throws “tough racehorses,” not fashionable commercial types

Buyers often want:

Big, flashy, fast 2-year-old types

Speed, explosiveness, conformation

Bettor’s Delight sires:

Tough, durable, long-winded horses

Horses who improve with age

Strong mental horses

Many geldings (because they’re better on the track when gelded)

These traits make great racehorses, but not always great studs.

3. His daughters outperform his sons

This is huge in the broodmare barns. His fillies consistently produce:

Horses with stamina

Soundness

High earning percentages

A great example:
Lazarus — a son of Bettor’s Delight — came from an exceptional mare, too.
