Question for you veteran NYRA horseplayers
« on: June 09, 2025, 04:13:43 PM »
Does anyone remember a parlay bet that NYRA offered, probably in the 80s, where you could link two or more win, or WP, or WPS bets? If several of your selections clicked, a small investment could garner a healthy return! Thanks in advance.

yes I recall --but you had to be on site at the track if I am not mistaken

I recall it in the 90s--they also gave you the breakage on your parlay

I recall sitting in the Yonkers clubhouse watching the NYRA simulcast, and being able to bet it there. Thanks for replying.

A Google search on the NYRA.com website leads you to an excellent section on Parlay betting. At least through 2018, it was offered on select thoroughbred tracks ( but apparently not NY in 2018;only Gulfstream, Santa Anita, and Delmar). Interesting how bets can be broken up. Up to 6 races can be selected, but they don’t need to be consecutive.

I used to wager on the parlay at AQU in the 80's back when Chris Antley was riding , they had the
parlay sheets/cards to fill out in holders around the track along with the pick 6 sheets/cards.

Back in the day the NY OTB’s had the bet on the sheets that you handed to the teller.
It was a great bet since it locked you in because sometimes if you had a big bet towards the end you might chicken out and not bet the large amount

Was that the format for the exotic Platos retreat bet at the old Roosevelt Raceway?

I have never been to Roosevelt- but I recall using those "tickets" at Belmont

My post was totally in jest. Plato's retreat was a swing club in the 80's in NYC, the post before me mentioned a swinger bet.

I was really young and it was harness but I remember my uncle playing 'THE BIG P'.
You had to turn in winning tickets to be able to bet the payoff leg.

There was also a bet called The Twin Double.
You bought a ticket for the first two races, and if it hit you turned it in for a ticket on two later races.
If you got the first ticket home you could scout the grandstand for someone to sell it to, or you could buy live tickets to resell, or you could bet it yourself.
It was a lot of fun buying and selling.

I believe that was a Roosevelt Raceway bet. I’m not sure it was ever NYRA?
I know that people at RR would be scurrying around like they were traders on Wall Street  73cv.2

Liberty Bell had a "twin trifecta"--turning in your winning ticket to be able to play the final leg

they did have a small payoff if you hit the first leg-but it was a small percentage of the pool

Didnt Monticello have a twin trifecta back in the day when you hit the first part and then cashed it in to be able to wager on the second half?
