My understanding is that MGM won't meet with the horsemen over the contract and won't give them anything past the end of this year.  I dont know what the NY law is about having VLTs and racing.

All makes perfect sense. Faraldo says he wants seven years acting like he cares about the horsemen. His hand selected horsemen. The state will release the license decision this fall. If MGM is granted their license, racing will cease, demo and construction will begin. Closing down negates having to race and that's why MGM won't tie into a contract. They didn't spend a billion dollars to support the dead weight. Or, if they don't win a license, they will sell. In the mean time the band of thieves will pillage the village until it's gone. Remember, no VLTs, no racing. And they even state their dates are month to month!!! Faralduhhhh has NO chance against the MGM attorneys. Maybe Taylor can retain him.  ngc3

If MGM gets the license they have to race the Yonkers meet their or somewhere else. If MGM doesn’t get the license they still make a ton of money there even with paying the Yonkers purses. They might sell but to whoever buys would still need to race. NY politics are crooked but they aren’t getting rid of racing.

VLT = Video LOTTERY Terminal
Exactly why MGM will not sign any long term contract.

If MGM Yonkers secures a full-scale casino license, horse racing at Yonkers Raceway is expected to continue, as it is deeply integrated into the facility’s operations and supported by New York State law, which links the racino’s gaming operations to maintaining horse racing. Here’s a detailed look at the potential impacts based on available information:
Positive Impacts on Horse Racing
1.  Continued Investment in Racing Facilities: MGM Resorts has already invested over $1 million in track renovations since acquiring Yonkers Raceway in 2019, including resurfacing the track, installing LED lighting, upgrading the horse paddock, and adding a new LED infield tote board. A full casino license could provide additional revenue to further enhance racing infrastructure, improving the experience for horses, drivers, and fans.
2.  Stable or Increased Purses: A 2021 agreement between MGM and the Standardbred Owners Association of New York (SOANY) ensures that purse levels for horse racing will at least match 2019 levels (over $50 million annually, the highest for harness racing in the U.S.) with adjustments for inflation if a casino license is obtained. This financial commitment suggests that racing purses could remain robust or grow, supporting the sport’s competitiveness.
3.  Commitment to Racing Legacy: MGM has publicly emphasized its dedication to preserving Yonkers Raceway’s 125-year legacy as a premier harness racing venue. The 2025 racing schedule includes 240 race days—more than any other track globally—and major events like the MGM Yonkers International Trot, indicating a strong ongoing commitment.

And now MGM doesn't want to sign a long term contract. Until it's in writing nothing is certain.
