There is nothing wrong with Dave & Jess. The Meadowlands & the sport lost Brower & Mckee. No one could replace them.
I'll agree the paddock interviewer needs to step it up. He's new so give him a chance to improve.

There is nothing wrong with teaching people to bet the favorites in every race? How about never singling a horse in any multi race bet, no matter how much you like the horse? Im curious, what do you think right about those strategies?

I'm in favor of reducing horizontal wagering to a bare minimum like it used to be. Get rid of that survivor nonsense for one thing. Give them one pik 4 6th-9th) Get rid of the pik 5, pik 6. One double race 1 & 2. .10 supers on every race. . 50 tri's on every race. The vertical pools will fill up more. How many pik 5's do you hit a year. You might get a couple of pik 4's but not many more. These horizontal plays force you to bet races you may not like is at the root of that.

I am on the opposite side here--dime supers and 50 cent trifectas are for bingo players who just box any number that may be a part of their life

larger minimums produce larger payouts...so catering to bingo players just reduces the payoffs for those who actually study past performances and make picks based on logic not their license plate or address numbers

I rarely play Pick 4's or Pick 5's but have no problem with a 50-cent minimum trifecta or 20 cent superfecta because it gives you more coverage. Sure the payoffs aren't as big, but if superfectas are a $1 minimum I won't play them because it gets into too much money. As for bingo, I've never played it and have no interest in learning how to.

If you put the bankroll part of the discussion out of it, if you bet favorites you want the small minimums. If you are playing non favorites you absolutely want the larger minimum bet tracks

Totally agree, i hate 10 cent super's and 50 cent trifecta's, It should be dollar minimum for each. I play alot of superfecta keys and because of the dime superfecta the payouts aren't nearly as good. Furthermore, pick 3's and pick 4's should be dollar minimum and pick 5 can be 50 cents, Those bets are harder to hit so you should be rewarded for doing so. Mohawk and other tracks having a 20 cent pick 3 is ridiculous.

95% of my wagers are pick 4 and pick 5.  I hit enough to keep my head above water.  In general, I'm not interested in verticals because I'm no good at them.  I can pick winners but have no idea who will fill the remaining slots.  Week before last at Mohawk I did hit a $206 exacta because I loved Dirty Lil Piglet in the last race (no more horizontals to bet LOL) and used him on top of 5 others.  3 days later hit a $188 P-4 for a $4.80 investment.  Different strokes for different folks.

To me making minimums a $1 on tris pic3's and 4's is just turning away bettors. If you want to bet
it for $1 or more no one is stopping you, though making it a $1 removes it as an option for others.
Looking at these handles all around, I don't see how you turn away anyone wanting to wager.

Mohawk tonight 6:39 . 'POST TIME' 6:35 and horses just leaving paddock. These guarantees play
into a lot of this crap. Hoosier has guaranteed Hi-5 every night last race. It's quite excessive and
annoying. YOUNG PEOPLE liking this sport. ngc3 ngc3

Dave Little has singled big favorites in pick fours & spread in other legs. The strategy worked as he caught a longshot & had few nice payoffs.
There is a crazy thing abut favorites. Many rather cash plenty of tickets & lose a little.

See to me the higher minimum should not turn away other players, they just can't spread out as much. Yes there are times with a 50 cent pick 4 I'll bump it to a dollar , but with the lower minimums more people spread more which hurts the payouts... but to each his own.  tmbz1

Most of my wagers are pick 4's and 5's as well, not as high as percentage as you Mac, but pretty high and I do fairly well on them. I then  use those wagers as a springboard for my verticals.. usually a $1 superfecta key or a $5 trifecta key. I had a pick 5 at Gulfstream last month where I had a $32,000 will pay and just missed by a neck.. I still hit it for $1600 for a 40 dollar bet, but damn that was my most heartbreaking "win" ever, but Im sure we all have stories like that or something similar.

"They just don't spread out as much." Exactly, they are forced to alter their wager due to the higher
minimum. It is been my experience, you start cutting off horse to lower your wager, those are the
ones that invariably get there.

I get a kick out of watching Gary and he seems to do a good job getting some kids and non racing people out for photos and up close with the horses. It does look a little silly when pointing the drivers into the winners circle like they wouldn't find it without his guidance.  73cv.2

Prime example look at the pick 3 will pays at Mohawk  race 3 right now.. 3 or 4 bucks on a 20 cent minimum. Bumping that bet to a dollar would still only pay 15 or 20 bucks so it's not worth playing it. So one could argue that a lower minimum could make a lower handle. Just my 2 cents.. or in this case 20 cents lol.
