Couple days later Joe DeFrank calls me into the race office "why do I remember 223" but over PA said please come to race office. I wasn't racing had the one horse and was a groom under Louie. I'm a kid and shitting my pants what did I do. I stop at his receptionist, walk in after knocking "like you're supposed to". He's behind his desk, I remember all the wooden bookshelves. I introduce myself, he stands up shakes my hand. Say Johnnie Torre told me you helped Stevie with my furniture I wanted to thank you. AND, if you ever need anything you come see me. Told me come back he'll have tickets for the Meadowlands Grand Prix for me. I thanked him up and down. RESPECT. And I was in fucking awe too. That's what I mean when I say I love the sport and the history, but hate NOW and the industry today. Those times will never come back. Ever. And the scumbags of the game have a new clubhouse to hide too, here. Three years not one has approached me. But I'm glad and appreciate knowing I got to experience the best of the best for a while and learned from that, not this.

Not trashing him. He tried. But he's done. I am not lying when I tell you what he told me the night we met in that conference room two years ago. "I hope it fucking does tomorrow". I give him credit if it wasn't for him there would be no harness racing in New Jersey it wouldn't be the end of the world if that place shut down as it's a shell of what it once was. Kentucky is going to be the place to race. I agree with you when Joe DeFrank left the Meadowlands went downhill.

I never not gave him credit. Place would have been a parking lot for Met Life if not for him. And for the most part the horsemen never appreciated it and hates how he runs the show. In the end it is his playground and he can do as he pleases. The alternative now is NO harness racing in New Jersey. Then what. He wants a casino.
