Harrah's is committed to stick it to Churchill Downs because they own 50% of Rivers casino and ruined thoroughbred racing at Arlington Park. That common enemy made this deal with Hawthorne and Harrah's happen in a small but significant way.
Some of the Carey cousins who own shares told Tim Carey they no longer had any confidence in his methods but I heard from 1 cousin that their names were included in at least 2 lawsuits involving mechanics liens for unpaid work done during the demolition/construction phase that halted.
Everybody is hopeful this deal goes through and all the unpleasantness goes with it.
well, it's game over here at Maywood. thanks johnny Johnston for giving us fans the shaft!

At some point, Carey management may be trying to avoid a creditors committee. Liens, judgments, and the like can always screw up a sale or deal. Just another problem a potential buyer or partner has to deal with. This is one of the oldest tracks in the nation, and it's been in the Carey family for over a century. Shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves. The first generation creates and builds it, the second generation spends and enjoys it, and the third generation loses it. Today's day and age, starting with OTB's and inept, mismanagement, then to casinos, gaming, technology, etc., and continued ineptness and mismanagement, is killing for too many racetracks, and the sport and industry.

Latest from an insider, Harrah's is willing to go all-in on a racino at Hawthorne. Part of the grand plan is an interstate stakes series between Harrah's properties in Illinois and Indiana and possibly Louisiana and Pennsylvania. Imagine a harness stakes that starts at Hawthorne, then Hoosier, then Harrah's Philadelphia? Could be a game changer for the sport. For the runners a same set of races starting in LA, then IN, IL. The possibilities are pretty interesting.

NOW HE LOST SIGNALS FROM ANYTHING THTAT CHURCHILL DOWNS SIMULCASTS   THEY DONT PAY ANYBODY.

That alone will make this year's Kentucky Derby a possible no go at the OTBs.

Balmoral closing was awful. At the end it was real cheap. Before that it was a good track to bet. I hope that harness racing becomes relevant again in IL.

First of all--it is Caesars, the parent company of Harrahs which makes all the corporate decisions

Caesars owns Hoosier, Horseshoe Indianapolis, Scioto, Chester and Fonner Park in Nebraska

they own no tracks in Louisiana-so I am not sure how that fantasy plan would work

just another casino conglomerate waiting/positioning themselves for decouplng

So if this is real.....will it be s-breds, t-breds, or both?

In this specific case, if I was the casino company, and I had to choose a necessary evil.....I would pick the t-breds. They would view it as the devil you know.
