Ontario Hay Cubes
« on: February 02, 2025, 07:47:12 PM »
For the last 12/15 years I have been buying by the truck load and feeding Ontario Hay Cubies.
What do I do now?
Eat the 25% myself?
Pass the 25% on to my owners?
Buy from the race track hay jockey?
Just one more nail in the coffin. so say the hell with it, and retire?

The problem with trade wars is the guy selling hay cubes in the US. now raises his price to take advantage.

Yes buy USA hay cubes sounds like a good answer.
BUT, IMHO
USA hay companies hide there poorest hay in cubes.
Plus
USA hay cubes are already more expensive then Ontario cubes.
Plus
USA hay cubes are not always available.

Yes I agree!
USA sellers of USA cubes will raise their prices.
Their reason, Gas prices are going up due to tariffs.

Ontario is down to about four, soon to be two, of which none are A tracks, maybe except if you have a stakes horse in summertime. Canada is in serious trouble as opposed to us where money is pouring into more than a few states.

Ontario is in no trouble
the wagering is decent for a 4/5 night per week program at mohawk
the sires stakes  are good( yes they could be better)
 the breeders awards are great
very minimal shipping
top trainers and drivers will do very well
you wont get rich but you will have a job
and the purse money is basically guaranteed from the government under the current contract

Maybe they should fill regular cards with Amateur races?
It's a great game, if you have the means to play

It doesn't hold weight when people are only doing something out of spite, after being kicked out & having nowhere to go.

Why not??

The amateur race could have more money in the pools that betting the “professional” drivers.

The wagering is stagnant at best
the sire stakes is average at best
the shipping bills are still outrageous for how far they travel
agreed you will not get rich and only have a job if you're okay rubbing on six for 500 a week
nothing is guaranteed, if you knew anything about Ontario you'd know that.
Bottom line: i know twenty guys that have said no more to that province, all guys that have owner collectively hundreds of horses but you believe what you want
