Suspensions that rarely happen
« on: January 08, 2025, 08:28:41 AM »
There are many times in harness racing that the front runner gets passed in the stretch and the driver gives up and ends up blowing 2nd or 3rd. You rarely see a driver called in for that. I've seen the top drivers do it all the time including John Campbell, but nothing is ever said. It also happens when the horse sitting in the pocket comes out in the stretch to go after the front runner but after it's pretty obvious, he's not going to catch him, the driver gives up with 20 or 30 yards to go and ends up getting beat for 2nd. In some people's minds both examples could be considered race fixing, but you rarely see a driver get days for lack of effort.

I think Dover gave it to John Roberts a few years back.  Not sure if Allan Davis ever go it.

I remember the Jonathan Roberts one but don't recall Allan ever having one, but those suspensions are rare.

Jeff Gural has made a big deal about drivers not closing holes and courtesy tucks. What he doesn't understand is sometimes drivers give up a hole because they want to follow that horse.

Agree they are very rare.  Especially since they are doing nothing to AD or TD and it's happening weekly!   tmbz1

The question of the day---

We all know that Gural owns/breeds horses, has he ever sat behind one (a regular jog cart/race bike or a 2-seat jog cart)?

If he ever tried sitting in the sulky it would break, because he's a fat slob! I know he likes to rule with an iron fist, but telling drivers what they need to do is none of his F-in business.
