Freehold last day handle
« on: December 29, 2024, 12:11:49 AM »
Over $700k wagered total. $100k in final race.
I still believe strongly that with a will by owner group to improve the facility that Freehold with a well run sports book would have been able to profit for a new owner group that actually cares.
It was criminal what this owner group and mgt did to run this place into the ground. So many livelihoods lost on and off track.

As for the handle, some people went just to say they were there, and alot are probably only $2 bettors. For the most part, most owners who raced at Freehold have been losing money every year for a long time so the closure will actually give them the opportunity to either upgrade their stables or invest their money in a more profitable venture. The track didn't have alot of live tellers and most of them were well past retirement age. As for the grooms, there's a big shortage of grooms so they should have no problem finding work elsewhere. Even if the track was losing money on racing, they should have been able to make up for it with their share of the sportsbook's revenue.

  • Calhoun: Trigger, $25k/$500per week. Sounds great. IMO, you have 2 best options. 1) 100% of play on certain CarryOvers.  Pick-5 Carryovers are best. Pro is Near EV or +EV. Con is it's a ton of work in 1 day at worst or 3/4 days at best. But $500 gets you a lot of coverage. ..2) Focus 100% on one track, WITHOUT a lot of ship Ins. Woodbine, Remington, SoCal and Texas fit. WDB and Rem closed/closing. Whichever you choose, you need to know every single horse. You MUST have access to workout videos. You need to learn trainers. Good Luck
