Captain Albano

Powerful race!  Stung to the quarter in 25.1 and finished well.  Nijinsky couldn't get clear till the lane, but probably was not going to catch him.  No doubt who is 3yo Pacer of the Year.

Part of the "Dr. J. Management" group.  I believe $8500 for year 1.  1:49.2 speed as a 2yo, $1.5mm earned at 3, wins on 1/2, 5/8, mile tracks.  Capt. T through Angelou.

no reason he should not be a good/great sire
well until he isn't, which can easily happen as we all know

He should do OK but I think he is a bit undersized to have any lasting impression on the breed.  So many Captain T's out there.  Probably another face in the crowd in the long run.  He should race at 4 IMO.

hey seattle why is he 3yr old pacer of the year? he didnt win any of the marqee events.there are 4 horses in the running and all dominated aat some point. mirage hanover, nijinsky, legendary hanover, and capt. albano all had dominate stretches. the other 3 won the big races. that is why i say its between the other 3

Lost Cause: Captain Albano didn't win any of the marquee events according to you?

Captain Albano won the Little Brown Jug, Adios, Matron, and Progress Pace, all major races. Nijinsky won the North American Cup but most of his other wins were in the Ontario Sires Stakes. Legendary Hanover won the Meadowlands Pace and most of his other wins were in Canada, plus he tailed off after that. Mirage Hanover won the Meadowlands Pace and Tattersalls at Red Mile. Captain Albano was the most consistent all year and clearly the best at the end of the year and deserves to be voted top 3-year-old. I don't think the voting will be that close either.

Marquee?  None of what you mentioned are more than what could be considered major, even the Jug and Adios which almost never attract ALL the major players.  Don't get me wrong Captain Albano has the credentials to be 3 yr old of the year mostly due to consistency throughout the year as you mentioned.  The others have major knocks against them.  PS Mirage won the Breeders Crown at M not the pace which I'm sure you know.

i forgot about jug but that race is more post position needy of all the top races.albano sat a pocket to jody who wasnt giving up the lead to anyone.the other races are lesser races.i just think winning crown, pace, or cup is more impressive

You're entitled to your opinion, but I disagree with it. I'm not that big into times, especially when it's in the afternoon on a hot summer day, plus it was only a 5-horse field. The horse was very sharp for several months but tailed off later in the year and was winless in his last 4 or 5 starts before they retired him. Getting back to the Little Brown Jug, Nijinsky ran terrible and Legendary Hanover was a non-factor in both heats. In the early part of the year Captain Albano wasn't that good but really picked up his game starting with the Adios and stayed sharp the rest of the year, none of the others can say that.

albano may have stayed sharp but what happened in the breeders crown?my opinion  the horse who was sharp basically the whole year was nijinsky.he started good and ended good.legendary and mirage had about 6/8 weeks of dominance and albano was best the late.but again i think if you ask owners what races they would rather win i think jug is 4th.so my vote would go to either mirage, nijinsky or legendary
