I have a question for them. Who anointed Karl as a trotting "superstar"?

You make a million and you are a superstar!  People are just annoyed because he was made out to be the greatest trotter ever.  The bar was set so high he could never meet expectations.  Look at his stats without his name next to it and you can’t find anyone that wouldn’t call him a superstar in our sport!  tmbz1

The few that stay sound will trot fast.  You can’t talk soundness into a horse. His first crop will be “supported”  (KJ and Walner).

I wouldn't put a lot into what you read here. I remember there were just as many threads and more criticisms here about Captaintreacherou s.

as i said earlier
there is no more need to conjecture about how go0d/poor a sire he will be
no ones opinion matters because you do not know
no body expected chapter seven to be as great as he is
no body expected greenshoe and tds  to be as poor as they were
he will get decent mares in the first 2 years
we will all know once his first crop starts to race and not before

Especially when, by standing in Kentucky, you are basically subject to open level stakes in the sire stakes programs. So all of Karl's offspring are restricted to Kentucky's stake program, which is plenty good until you take into consideration so are any of the other jurisdiction sires' progeny are, dependent on residency of mare. Yes, you are eligible for quite a bonus, but you've got to be good enough to beat them (or at least be competitive). And his will need to be competitive with Walners, Muscle Hills, Chapter Sevens, etc.

Are there additional perks to being solely Kentucky-eligible that I am not aware of?

It seems to me the optimal strategy would be to put the stallion in other states except Kentucky and have the mares in Kentucky.

Based on his Hanover residency and his first crop yearling prices a lot of people expected him to be good. It's looking more and more like Bettor's Delight will go down as an exceptional racehorse and broodmare sire -- unless another son is waiting in the wings to step up, but you don't see Mirage Hanover or Nijinsky quick to retire.

There’s a 50% Kentucky sired bonus for horses that are sired by a Kentucky stallion.

Nijinsky will race next year out of the BP barn and then stand stud in NY after his 4 year old career.

Let's hope he's the one -- Bettor's Delight deserves an outstanding siring son. I actually think Mirage has a better shot being out of a Mach Three mare.
