Is it official? I've seen no word online about it. I hope it's not true.

The story in the Asbury Park Press says Freehold will cease operations on December 28th.

As an Illinois horseman originally this is now 6 tracks I have raced at that will have closed. Such a shame. People will say what they say but Freehold was fun to race at and little guys had a chance to compete. Times change. I feel bad for so many of the people who truly make their living out of there. Chester and Pocono are far too tough for "little guys". I don't miss much about NJ, but racing there is certainly one of them. My wife loved watching our horses there, may she RIP. Condolences to all those directly affected. It's like an old friend passing.

Their strategy of lifetime banning anyone  from the grounds for placing bets on games they deemed "advantage" games was not great management

You are not very bright

the democratic governor was trying to save it by providing $1.6 mil for purse subsidies(welfare)

if Pennwood is keeping the land and not selling-then they are simply not applying for racing dates-which saves NJ the $1.6 mil--and Gural is eyeballing that money

You did state the NJ must sanction, or approve, this closure. By all accounts, that was incorrect. Freehold was able to fold without any approval from the state. I believe that is what the previous post was referencing

the state was allocating $1.6 mil for them

i am confident they had a say-whether it yay or nay

also i said they had to sanction this as long as they were providing subsidies

they are not doing that anymore
