What I would like to see in a program.
« on: August 31, 2024, 02:44:26 PM »
They say that the more information you give a gambler the more he is willing to bet.

Having said that I find a lot of information missing and the following is what I'd like to see.

be=broken equipment. I want to know which equipment broke i.e was it a flat tire , broken line, head pole fell off .
Some have no effect on horse but flat tire big effect.

Mohawk does not have  track ratings so that you can compare when a horse comes from another track. We had them at one time but most tracks go without them. Now we only have track abbreviations.

When a horse loses a shoe in a race we need to know. This information is never given.

When a horse is favorite or close to it and simply backs through the field, The public has a right to know, ex: Its my show 2 starts ago. Beaten by 35 lengths and went 59.2 that's 12 seconds slower then his last start.

How about posting the temperature before each race rather then keeping the same one all night. In northern States and Canada their is a big difference in temps at 7pm and 11 pm. during winter.

All of these provide major information to a punter.

statistics on winning post positions i find very useful for both trotters and pacers

Mohawk provides this information and they update it once a week

it really shows how disadvantageous post #1 is

Roy said on TV the other night how he had post #8 and how superior it was to post #1

they have similar win percentages over the calendar year

anyone thinking post #1 on a two turn oval  is a good thing should think again

I agree, pour the info. to the gambler, however be sure to include a page in the program that clearly explains what each symbol/info. piece means. Every betting patron I see at the track usually has their face planted in the program - if it's there they'll use it! tmbz1

They should also show a syringe in the race line for any horse that was dq’d for drugs after the lab tests were done.

Might as well throw in a horses height, weight, and length. Might be valuable in baby races or to try to figure out if a horse might fit a particular track.

I remember a couple years ago when Burkes filly Sea Silk just physically towered over her competition, especially in the early part of the season.

-unlike t'bred DRF, harness program need the equipment changes of past races and were they. Harness does not do this and must.

-because of the amt. of family names that drive in harness, making sure correct first names or initials are indicated in past performances.  .ie at Northfield,  L Ebersole listed on previous drives all the time...and I keep asking, was that Luke or Logan...Rhoades did Bill or Braiden drive..
There are others other places that NEED to be specific.

-re that "broken equipment' notation...it would be nice if they put the 'b e' in the past performance line EXACTLY where b e occurred. Past performances always note it at end, which is rarely helpful.

How about including how many times the trainer was caught drugging his horses?

There is only one thing everyone is missing and that is the total key,,,,,,,,,, I WANT TO SEE THE CHOP GO TO 10 PERCENT AS the truth is horse racing sees a very small part of the chop and it has nothing to do with the purses these days so i want to see in big bold letters 10 percent total chop and that with better management might bring new people back to the game and time is running out,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

good point

since gaming funds the purses and handle is virtually meaningless(as far as purses go)--who would object to a lower takeout? the racetracks? the horsemen?

one thing that is fact--the lower the takeout the lower the rebate given to the whales and CAWs--so they probably have a major say in why the takeouts remain the same, they most likely influence the decision since they are the overall handle main customers

they must tell the tracks to leave everything status quo so they can continue the current fleecing of the public money

I am not for 100 percent info in the program as the 25 percent chop is hard to beat and handicapping is doing work and 100 percent info makes it a lazy mans game but stats that are fair for all like why the Broke Equipment are good for the game,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Last week i got up early to watch some huge english TB stake races and heard them say that a horse will change his running style and go more forward in the race and thats what happened and i thought that was good for the game as they had to report a change that was not handicapable on paper,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

agree--i also watch a lot of England/Ireland tbred races in the morning. Often the commentary is accurate and obviously will not show up on paper

I think the program has plenty enough info in it. My Dad always said study long.. study wrong.. go with your 1st gut feeling and don't worry about the odds. That influences people's decision to much. A small win is better than any loss. I've heard a million people over the years say I would have bet that horse or I liked that horse but his odds were to low or dropped to much. If it's not worth betting there is always another race at another track.

nowadays we have no idea what odds you will receive until around the 3/8ths pole--after the bell money makes the oddsboard before the race irrelevant
