Vernon 6th

Can someone explain why the horse that broke in the stretch was placed third and not second where he finished. He wasn't lapped on. Its either second or thrown out. Watch the replay and you'll see what I mean. Vernon 6th Breeders Classic Race.

I was thinking the same thing but didnt want to post to see the "stop whining for losing your $2" crowd jump in. It was a joke. The 4 was nowhere close to being lapped on by the 7. Watched hundreds of NYSS races and never saw a DQ like this at any of the various tracks.

I started a thread about this too so don't feel bad.  I have no clue how they can justify this "ruling".

It's a questionable call for sure...Maybe they will debate he didn't lose ground on the break? No real effort by driver to get back on stride. But it's definitely an answer that they should have announced why the DQ

its either leave him up or place last? 3rd makes no sense?

just watched the replay

the breaker was 5-6 lengths clear of the 3rd finisher and broke at the very end of the mile

horrible DQ

dont be surprised if the connections file a lawsuit since the purse was over $100k

What a horrendous decision to drop that horse to 3rd place finish. Would love to hear the judges explanation on that idiotic decision. By no means was he lapped and no where’s around anyone to cause any type or interference. Judges probably making $20 an hour just cost the owner between $12,000 - $12,500 by putting the horse 3rd. Brutal !

It’s the right call, JB let the horse gallop the last 1/16. Had he grab the horse up and tired to get him back on gate the 3rd placed horse might have
got to rear which would make it a lapped on break. Since JB made no attempt we will never know. So that’s the reason for the placing. FYI the judges could give JB days for not attempting to get the horse back on gate. That’s also part of the rule.

Technically a horse has to cross the line on his gait whether it’s a trot or pace whichever he is and if he doesn’t and is not lapped on he loses 1 position

This is absolutely NOT true.

Although the rules have changed and each state has its own rules on breaking.  I saw a horse break while winning the whole stretch galloping and he won placed last. Than I saw same at pocono. Horse in front galloped the whole stretch and won and they left it up as winner. I was amazed. So each track can do whatever they want I guess 🤷🏽

You may be correct in this post-but i have NEVER seen what happened today in over 45 years of watching harness racing
