The purses didn’t go up when they opened the sports book I doubt they will go down when they close it. Not sure how they couldn’t make money with the book. That is a license to print money

They didnt lose money on the sportsbook wagering--but they are required to pay a large annual licensing fee to NJ to have the book. I cant imagine their is much betting when everyone has a dozen options/apps on their phone to make bets.

the purses wont be affected. They open 23Aug and will race Fridays and Saturdays till the end of the year, adding 6 thursdays-4 in September and 2 in October. The purse money has already been legislated and allocated to both M1 and freehold through the end of the year.

every year the state budget is another story-how much to give racing is part of that. They are pushing for historical racing machines like Kentucky but i doubt that happens.

They waited forever to get the Sports betting. You must strike when something is hot.

Who would care how much licensing fee was if you were making good money.

I just received the word that the Sports Book at Freehold Raceway will officially close on August 23rd.  I hope that the racing ceases as well and the land gets sold for condos or another shopping center.  Far too many dirtbags hanging out there waiting for their own funerals in my opinion.  Total POS's that I wish would consider suicide and rid the earth of their scum.
You don't have to sit with those 15 other people there. The place is not huge but there is plenty of room for 16 people there. Sit in the stands with a program and bet on your phone if you cannot stand the clientele or the one teller who is nasty also.

That one teller is a POS.  He was there when Codey and Daryl were there.  He would take Daryl's bets after Codey allowed him to cash rubber checks to the tune of almost $400,000 over a period of time.  Never saw a day in jail for it but Codey lost everything.  That teller is one notorious scumbag and always has been.

I believe his first name is Bob.  He works the dining room on Saturday.  He has white hair, about 5'7" in height and about 75 years old.
